Where Are The HPX170s?

Good news, Dan!
That probably means mine should be shipping out at the same time.

Were you called for confirmation and payment info already?

Luis:

We are gold. I spoke with Jasmine at Spec Comm today and my HPX is shipping tomorrow (if you were on the list, yours should be shipping tomorrow too) With free UPS ground, I should have it in my sweaty hands by Thursday of next week!

I should have paid the extra to upgrade from UPS Ground, now I am obsessing about getting the 170 and putting it through it's paces.

Just to update you guys, we just received 10 here in LA.

Playing with one we put in our rental pool right now:

First impressions: is it me or does EVF seem better than an HVX? Feels extremely light (love that), but not too happy about the hood, no screw/button you just kind of twist it on and off.

Daniel:

Do you have a rental company? What is the link? Would be good to rent from a fellow DVXer when I have multiple camera shoots and need more 170s.

Also, if you have time, try the frame rate hack and let us know if it still works on the 170.

Thanks,

Dan

Frame rate hack works. Yes the EVF and LCD are way better than on the HVX. They're the same hardware, but the processing makes them much sharper and more usable - the peaking is greatly improved and it makes the LCD/EVF a lot more useful than it ever was.

The hood isn't that big of a deal as long as you remember to FULLY LOCK IT. If you don't snap it all the way, it'll be left at a minor angle and might vignette a little bit in the upper right/lower left corners. If you snap it all the way that's not a problem.

Hi Barry:

That's great news, thanks for updating us on that. My f1-4 settings are all frame rate hacks, I like it that much.

I also can verify that Spec Comm gives much better customer service than B&H. I like B&H and buy quite often from them, but they are just a box house. Spec Comm has called me half a dozen times to just tell me what is happening, which I really find refreshing.

Service is almost dead in retail so when you find someone good, stick with them.

Dan

agreed on spec-comm. I've used B&H for years but purchased my HVX200, HVX200A, LH1760 and now HPX170 from spec-comm. they have called every step of the way to let me know what's going on, great customer service.

just wanted to let people know that they're in stock at B&H although I bet that will change quickly...

Shipping tomorrow. HVX200A up for sale! - From Spec-Comm, of course.

Sniffle. Gonna have to keep an HVX200 around, though, for Tape-Drive work.

Kholi:

You buy a lot of gear. Do you have a rental house or do you use it all in your work or are you just hopelessly addicted to gadgetology? ;-)

I am envious, I can only afford one camera these days and its the one paying the bills.

Dan

yes i just got my ups next day shipping email. will have tomorrow by 11.00 am wow way to go spec-comm . i paid the extra $170 for next day air, shooting from heli on monday . can hardly wait.

I have a deposit at Abel Cinetech. NY got a few in, but not LA. Was told there were 15 pre-orders, but that they would not be getting as many as they thought in the first batch.

BH Photo looks like the surest bet to grab a 170 now!
