The end of 35mm adapers and hv20s....

Why is everyone making all these early conclusions about this camera! the only footage that we have seen has been very poorly shot. It would be like judging the HVX by watching footage that was shot by someone who had never picked up a camera before.

WAIT until it comes out and some good footage starts to show up before making a decision about this camera.

This happen when the HV20, HVX etc came out. There was all sorts of bad footage. Then the right people who know what to do, turned that negative press around shooting good stuff.

exactly. I bet we will see some great stuff shot on this camera, just have to give it some time.

The very earliest HV20 footage available (the Japanese train footage) suffered from nothing like the problems we see here.

Is the $999.00 price tag for the kit or the body? I'm assuming just for the body.

That's pretty cheap for a sync sound camera (sync in the sense that the consistent frame rate of the camera allows it to be easily aligned with an independent audio recording source. I doubt if anyone using this thing to shoot would use the onboard sound.) And you get to use Nikon's great lenses without at 35mm-light losing-edge to edge sharpness killer adapter. Sweet!

Anyone in the market for a D40 body? I'm raising funds!

An entire HOUR without one post? Insane.

Sunday is soon. At the very least it's a good start and only gets better. Even if it's not the best thing on earth and less than expected the photo side is gonna be as great as expected. Then, when the larger cams featurin' the same abilities, and Canon jumps in the race it's a trade-up program!

Still excited. Can't wait to see some footage without the Kit lens as I guess it isn't anywhere near decent enough for actual video.

I was just thinking, could a slow SD card affect the way it captures motion files from the camera? I suspect many people who hastily used the camera for a few minutes might not be up to speed with their SD cards.

What's weird is some files are running at ( 21.56 mbits/s ) like this one
The duck footage is running at ( 22.83 mbits/s ) and is an orginal
The original bird footage is ( 14.27 mbits/s )
The JPEG quality is probably fixed at about 75%. When images contains many details they get higher bitrates. A black wall out of focus gets low bitrates since the picture is just about one color. A sharp picture of something with many details and different colors gets high bitrates.

You have to remember that television technology (the means to display images) moves relatively slowly, where as computer technology moves extremely fast. As soon as cameras became digital (basically small computers) all bets where off. This is still early days with DSLR cameras, they will far exceed HD Television technology in the years to come as bus speeds and storage get higher and higher, and faster and faster. HD, or even 4K will become less than the norm for what is possible with these new cameras. Fast forward 5 years, and this D90 will look like a Betamax.

PS We used a Nikon D300 extensively on our last shoot for timelapsing. The 4k footage was stunning. The actual video we did was shot on a HPX500. We basically needed to down grade the D300 footage in post to match. Imagine if we'd shot the whole thing with the D300 at 25fps

I always thought it would be just a matter of time before we'd start shooting at 25fps on a DSLR.
