Scarlet Update

Just to clarify, I never said that you can't use the camera alone... I don't think anyone needed clarification for that though, Red says it plain and simple, and the thing has a built in lens so duh, it is a complete camera... however, if you go handheld with a bare Scarlet you will get a home video feel... or a very good home video feel if the operator is very good... what I was saying and most people understood (I am sorry if I wasn't clear) is that once you add on the accesories that film makers would want to put on it, then you can get a very standard hand held look... with the stuff on it it will have much more mass (triple it at least) and you will be able to hold it how traditional cinema hand held is held... on your shoulder... but all of these things (to me) seem 100% common sense... such as the fact that if you have a bare Scarlet you will be able to get stuff that no other camera can get thanks to it's minimal size... I mean, none of this is hard to figure out, it is just common sense... but just to talk with you I thought I'd clarify that point...

Thought this deserved its own thread, RED have put more Scarlet renders on the NAB Scarlet page on Red.com

Sorry for the hugeness of this post! Thanks for the tip, Derek

In addition to the renders, people were wanting to get a rough idea of how Scarlet scaled against a common item, this is the image that has been supplied....

If you guys want to use it for fun, and there are lots of people that can buy $3k toys, then just shoot like it is a consumer picture camera... just grab it
But if you want to make 3K pro projects then everyone on any forums and their mothers realize that a camera is nothing but the camera and you always will need accessories cause there ain't no pro project that was shot ever with just a camera (Blair Witch people don't even think about it!) and I think that the cheaper the camera the more money left over for accessories so this camera will be a flat out winner let alone if it has crazy problems that simply will not happen... you might have some CMOS rolling shutter limitations but short of that it will be a kick ass camera BODY... you will need rails, everyone will need some sort of support... and you will need an other $10k to get it to being a rig that most pros would even consider shooting with...

=====================================
Question
does this mean scarlet has a cmos senor ?
if so
I assume you really are going to have problems moving the camera right?Or have they advanced the technology beyond the traditional CMOS drawbacks.?

We have been told not to worry.
It's already been discussed at great length within the RED/Scarlet forums.
Essentially, the latest generation sensors from RED known as "Mysterium X" CMOS sensors have overcome the rolling shutter issues that are commonly associated with most CMOS sensors in use today. Since Scarlet will have the new mysterium X sensor, it is believed that it will not exhibit rolling shutter artifacts.

Thanks this info !
So scarlet does hold promise .!!!
The methods of reducing occilation"camera motion" and vibration during moves will be ranging from the sublime to the ...well .... improvisational .
It should be fun !

Did you guys notice the rubber pads on the top where they also seem to have female threads?! Are they trying to make it easy for us by allowing us to mount the camera upside down? :D hehe... I called it if it does happen.
That could help for mounting high or low, but I am sure it has the flip function built in anyway...

It does look Matrixy

That or they are there to mount cages on.

Yea, that's definitely for the cage. But if you can mount the camera upside down
and hit the image flip button then that might also help save some money for some people in terms of Zrisers and stuff like that... but of course it is very unlikely
that it would all line up perfectly.

This guy must have started out designing sci-fi spaceships out of egg boxes and heat-sinks and old aluminium extrusions. Everything seems to look like the Millenium Falcon or the Death Star. That eyepiece is downright tacky - it looks like a teenager's Goth boots.

I would prefer a purely functional design, with absolutely no embelishments whatsoever.

What eye piece? There is no eye piece Lucas, as far as I know there is only the LCD to view with... that is a toggle of sorts and while I kind of agree with you I also think that complaining about the design of a 3K $3k camera is tacky in itself. The guy is helping us out, now if you don't want people to have access to such resolution and frame rates for this little money then just say it... but when someone gives you a race horse virtually for free, you don't look at it's teeth.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Well put, my friend. I personally like the unique styles of Mr. Jannard... but to be honest, I wouldn't care if this thing looked like a milk carton. As long as it shoots at 3k, and is priced under 3k, I'll be one of the first in line.

why do people keep saying 3k for under 3k, I find it a bit immature, anyone with
half a brain knows that scarlet will not cost 3k, the body yeah but because by the time you buy the necessary recording media and support you will be in the 10k range, just like redone camera, how many people do you honestly know that bought the body for 17k and are out there shooting with just the body?

dont get me wrong its a great marketing strategy to lure the public into the thought of 3 grand for "3k resolution"

How many RED ONE cameras came with a built in mic, zoom lens, flip out LCD, CF slots, etc. There's a lot more built in to Scarlet than there was with the RED ONE, so I'd say that the claim of 3K for $3k is pretty solid. 'Sides, it isn't like you can buy an EX1, HVX, or XLH1s without some supporting gear to go with it. You'd need a case, tripod, P2/SxS/MiniDV recording media, filters, mattebox, and whatever else you think you'd need.

alex, in any event, believe me I will be first in line when scarlet comes out but I know all to well that I not gonna be shooting scarlet for 3 grand out the door, come on now :)

we'll just wait and see :)

First, I don't appreciate the name calling. If anything, that's what's immature in this conversation.

Secondly: Is this a joke? have you read ANY of Jim's posts? Scarlet will be ready and willing straight out of the box (minus recording media). Anything else you WANT, you can add to it.

Will I personally be shooting straight out of the box? no. I already own thousands of dollars in accessory's, and I only anticipate more. But that doesn't mean it can't be done.

Jim's said over and over again, this camera will be able to shoot, comfortably, right out of the box. He hasn't let me down yet, and I have nothing but confidence he will come through.

hey man what is your problem? I was not namecalling anybody, read my post again before you start blaming me for something I did not do, first of all I was not even talking about you, the 3k under 3k "theme" is mentioned across 10 or so other forums, I never said I heard it here only, plus its my personal opinion that its a nice market strategy, damn man why so sensetive !!!!! we are all friends here plus so much stuff gets poorly interpreted on text

peace
