Express Card slot and P2?

This may be a question that was asked before, but my search results on the site didn't turn up anything. Anyway, I'll be shooting a short feature in a couple weeks, and up until TODAY, I was under the impression my Dell Inspiron 1720 had a PCMCIA card slot, when in fact it's an Express Card slot. First dumb question: P2 isn't compatible with Express Card, is it? Second question... is there a cheap and reliable alternative to mounting the P2 drive into my computer for footage dumping? Adapter maybe or something? Thanks much guys.

THe Duel Adapter is the more popular of the two and has been discussed quite a bit on this forum, if that helps any.

The Addonics is almost 50% cheaper, more compact (easier to pack) and doesn't require drivers. Either will let you use a P2 card with a ExpressCard slot.

it's in fine prints underneath the addonics product

"*does not support 16-bit PCMCIA card such as ATA Flash, 4-in-1 DigiAdapter or CF DigiAdapter. Under Mac OS X, Panasonic P2 cards are currently not supported with this adapter."

regardless, it should work if you install the p2 driver...

Last I heard, the Addonics doesn't work on Mac hardware, even if you run WinXP under bootcamp. If you're using a Mac, stick with the Duel.

Thanks guys. I'm going with the duel, considering we'll have a Mac laptop on set in addition to two PC's... this way I won't run into the Addonic's compatibility issues. Thanks again.

addonics won't work for macbook pro? that's a shame, it looks a lot more sturdy, I have a duel, it's plastic, made with bad design, and most of all, not very sturdy. once my duel plugs in the express-slot, if you tug on it lightly, it just comes back out, and it won't work again unless you restart your computer...

although, duel rep did state that people constantly have this problem, it will still work, but the day it stops working, is the day they'll exchange it for you.

are you sure addonics won't comply with macbook pro??? because if it does, i'm selling my duel now for $50 and picking up the addonics now...

I popped in my adapter, but it couldn't find the appropriate drivers for the P2 storage controller. When I run the P2 drivers from Panasonic, it only shows me the HVX200 drivers and not PCMCIA drivers. How to fix? What did you guys have to do to get your expresscard to PCMCIA adapter to read the p2?
