Any reason to keep MXF files, FCP user.

Sorry Shane, I was a bit grumpy there too.

I'm just looking for answers for the folks who are having problems, that's all. No axe to grind, just -- the vast majority of folks struggling to make their systems work all come down to a few key complaints, time and time again. So I'm trying to find ways to solve those. It may all be user error, but if it is -- how do we definitively advise them so that they can avoid that error?

Jimmy, we don't really know what the problem is with why the glitch happens. My suspicion is that it's related to the way FCP and OSX relate to the card itself, which would imply that once you have the footage safely off the card, you should be able to drag and drop to your heart's content. But it may be down to a simple OSX/FAT32 issue as well. Which may mean that once you get it into the OSX realm you're safe to drag 'n' drop, but while it remains in FAT32 you may or may not have an issue. This is speculation though -- I don't think anyone really, truly knows the answer. And again, it's very rare. I recommend the P2CMS approach because it offers a bit-for-bit data verification mode, so once it's successfully copied you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you're safe to go. If P2 Genie offered data verification then I'd offer that as an alternative too (actually, maybe it does, it's been forever since I looked at it).

Seems that there are alot of grumpy people around here. :)

I've read Barry's posts on the lack of MXF native support in FCP ever since the HVX200 was released.

My workflow, and I suspect the largest part of the HVX200/FCP user base doesn't require or need it, but some do.

Other companies have stepped in and filled the void.

I actually prefer log and transfer and conversion because it forces me to have a redundant backup.

From what I've seen on these boards and others that problems usually are generated from user error more than any other issue

I've used the MBP with the duel adapter for over a year now with zeros issues.

The only thing I wish is a PC Card slot option for Intel Macs, or an inexpensive FW p2 card reader from Panasonic

Noah,
did you try it?

Which is your advise for a FCP user between this one, Raylight or HD log ?

I haven't had a chance to battle-test it just yet but it looks very promising and more than anything affordable. I think each program has its strengths and of course it's markets. And with demos of each you can decide for yourself.

Noah
