Dvx Extreme Slow Mo 120p Maybe?

So I did some extreme slow more with after effects and twixtor,
Shot in 60i interpret footage to 24p slowed to 100 percent. Then I took the 24p file and used twixtor to slow it down even more, I forget what the exact number was.

I will post up the link when its done uploading.

thats sick man!!! can you do me a huge favor and post up a lil step by step tutorial on how you did this??? i have after effects and just got twixtor, but i cant seem to get results that are as smooth as yours...

Open after effects.
New composition 24 frames per second.
import your 60i video. Interpret video lower fields first.
Then bring it into your compistion time warp 200% and export as 24 frame progressive file.

Then I brought the 24 frame slowed down file into a new 24 frame composition changed the input in twixtor to 24 and output to whatever speed you want.

That is all I did. The first step may not be needed. Steve seems to have some good results shooting 30p and just using twixtor.

I keep hearing that twixtor isn't worth the money but that clip would imply otherwise.

That looks great. You remember your frame rate?

the clip is 24 frames per second. I dont have a clue what it looks like it is. I dont even know how twixtor does what it does. Is it worth 600 bucks? I don't think so. I borrowed my copy from a friend.

I'm an idiot. I meant shutter speed, not frame rate. I shoot a lot of bikes as well and my biggest problem with slowing things down is finding a good shutter speed. Just wondering what that was because it looks really crisp.

So you used the pro version?

the shutter was super high 1/2000 maybe. Ya I know under the arm it looks all "gooey" almost. Strange things happen but I just opened after effects for the first time in my life last week. SO im still learning.

Ya the manual shot is perfect until the very last part, I think the motion must be too fast, im sure there is a way of tweaking it, however the first time I watched your vid I didn't notice it was there. For most people, especially if you use the twixtor sparingly, I dont think they would notice at all.

could it be that it jumps from like 60 to 100 that makes it so weird??? maybe you should try and ramp it a little bit???

yeah but it jumps directly from 60 to 100, a proper ramp would have at least one maybe 2 steps in between. I mean dont get me wrong i think its good, but to me i think think thats what might be making it look a little weird, is that it jumps back into real time so abruptly.

It's a good idea to try using twixtor on footage that's already been slowed down 50% with the first mentioned method, then maybe it makes it easier for twixtor to find the "fill in" frames. I will definately try this, thanks buddy!

heres my attempt at a twixtor slow mo, didnt go 24p first though, just went form 60i...

I got some weird artifact type things in between his legs as well, seems like twixtor doesnt do so hott with that type of thing. Is there an advantage of going to 24p first??? i wouldnt think there would be...

-oh yeah i was fooling around with magic bullet as well so...no i didnt shoot it like that, just thought it looked pretty cool.

I dont know if there is an advantage or not other then making it progressive before rendering. I am sure there is a way to fine tune the image to get rid of some of that weird artifacting.

Dude for DV (meaning no true overcranking at full rez) that looked AMAZING. I'm going to have to try that some time...

Why is the bottom letterbox bar shaking in the video? The effect looked great except for that.

I think its because I shot letterbox and when I did all the rendering in post it must have messed it up. If you shot squeeze or 4x3 it would eliminate that.

Oh, its just standard software based frame interpolation. The title implied something that was unique to the dvx which clearly it is not. (Not meant to take away from your fun, as learning new stuff is always a hoot. Thought maybe you had found something new about dvx hardware)
