Core 2 Duo Build Project: 2007

So far my Crucial memory is overclocking much better than my E4300 is. I guess I can't complain about that.

i said all along you should get the e6600. now you're stealing my idea about getting the ballistix ram. what's up with that? so do you notice a difference between the crucial and the gskill?

I'm not keeping the E6600. It's just to play around with for a month. LoL

The Ballistix were cheap and are not here yet. Should be in the next few days! I'll let ya know what kinda differences I can readily spot in performance.

As far as FCP using Dual Cores I'm not entirely sure on that. I'd suspect that it's optimized for Dual Core processor, at least. Seein' as how Mac's have been Dual for a good two to three years now.

3.8Ghz isn't uncommon, actually. Over at OCN someone's been able to clock to 3.9 (4.0ghz) with load temps under 50c. THat's ridic!

On the way to OCing right now.

At 3.4Ghz and about to stabilize but boy are temperatures off the map. =(

At 3.4ghz I need 1.41v to stabilize and the temperatures are like 52c load. I think it's my week being power hungry.

Still going to push for 3.6 and higher, though.

BTW, I hear that the E4300s have some kind of FSB "wall" or "hole" and that from about 325 to 380 nothing will run. Apparently if I take my multiplier down to 8x and run the FSB near 400 I can get 3.2. Also, if I can run this stable, it is recommended to try to dump the multiplier back up to 9x in order to shoot for 3.6ghz.

I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow and I'll try to report my findings.

that's the nature of the beast. sometimes you have to raise the fsb and lower the multiplier, other times you do the opposite. with trial and error you'll find the best ratio of fsb to multiplier.

that could be people's MoBos switching the strap from 1066 to 1333... if so then right after the wall it will be lower performance but much more stable than right before it... as you go further it will start increasing performance again

hey Kholi... do you remember when you wouldn't listen to me about getting a NB cooler for your DS3?

what happened to you dude? you take out any loans yet? sold any kidneys? you sound like you got bit hard by the OC bug... hahhaha

I am actually upgrading my NB and SB cooling too... getting a 120mm fan on the NB... hahaha FTW! most defenetly won't be throwing anything more than 1.6 at it though... so I wonder what I'll get out of my Q6600 G0 if I go that way...

Well I should prolly poke my head in and give an update ...

Long story short - I bought a Mac Pro - for sanity. And I'm loving FCS 2! I need to be spare with my cash for a bit before spending more in a month or so - I do intend to buy the PC parts and undertake the project because it sounds oh so good to do. And if that works out well, anyone interested in a Mac Pro? lol.

Its awesome that this thread is still alive!

hahahah nice!!!! I would love to have one

I would recommend you consider a Q6600 G0 then... by then they'll be out and we'll have the numbers on those...

=P I didn't get NB cooling until now. Didn't need it, either! HA!

But I ordered NB Enzo cooling, SB Enzo cooling, and a bunch of other stuff; no need to sell off any kidneys.

3.5Ghz 56c Load temps Stable. That's as much as I'm going to push this CPU unless I get another, better week from someone.

HA! hehehe...

yea... well guess what Kholi... a certain someone has the 7200 rpm average speed record with 136.2 MB/s any records over there Kholi? HA!

Oh... and the max memory clock for GTS video cards to.... HA!

hahahah!!!! rofl... we are a mix 'tween a junkie and a 6 year old.... hahahah

We're baaaack.

USLatin n'myself have acquired new CPUs. A different revision of the Q6600 Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz Processor.

As of now, I'm running 3.8Ghz on a Quad core stable.

Have the ability to boot up @ 4.0Ghz and can probably stabilize it yet have to deal with the heat.

USLatin has a render test going on with his Quad that I'm sure he'll post here soon. I'll do one w/Final Cut Pro as soon as I put my PC back together completely.

Gotta say: 3.8Ghz is tight.

damn. i should have ordered way back when. i just figured newegg would have it for cheaper. oh well.

I am running at only 3.26 since my MoBo is known to have a 375FSB wall with Quads due to low GTL voltage. I am weighing my options namely a hard soldering mod or switching MoBos but I might sit it out till the new generation of MoBos come out.

I am having a bit of a fit with Vegas/Raylight though as I don't think Raylight is taking advantage of the cores... I mean I know it isn't! But more to come on that since I just dropped it in like 3hs ago.

BTW I am getting below 60C on loat and using 1.3875 volts to get the 3.26GHz
I have not yet tried higher clocks or lower volts... but I'll try to get a tad closer to 3.37GHz (the theoretical ceiling on this board) BRB :D

Oh.. BTW it seems I will get a 2/3 render time if there is no GPU based CC on the project.
I am using Vegas 7latest, XP-32, and Raylight.... tests were performed using the Green setting (for both before and after)

results being updated here
