hallelujah!!.... New P2 software from Panny for both PC and Mac!

Installed it on 7.2 and 10.4.10 and when trying to set a database, the app doesn't work.

This is on a Intel MacPro.

For the life of me, why can't Panasonic get its collective you know what together for current versions of QT and OS before it releases something.

It's maddening given the fact that most of the HVX200 users are Mac based.

The company should be act more economically responsibly on these issues.

Installed on a G4 Powerbook OS 10.4.10 with QT 7.2 and everything seems to be working just fine as far as playing back clips. But I get an error every time I try to ingest clips to the database.

Just came out and it needs to be upgraded already.

Just installed on Mac Pro (with QT 7.1.6).

The first issue is language-- both in documentation and in dialog boxes. It is Japanese English and ranges from the comic to the incomprehensible. For example, command-Q brings up the dialog box "Alert. Do you quit application?"

The documentation requires much more description of functions, such as the difference between Archive and BackUp and clarification on the optical media issues for backup.

I have not installed it on any of my other machines yet, but on this Mac Pro it is very fast and is a first rate application. Access to the metadata alone is great along with marking i/o points and exporting only what is marked. And you can write to the metadata.

A major difference between this and HD Log is the export modality. HD Long will export XML for FCP (and I'm speaking here only on the Mac platform) while the Panny software will export a P2 MXF structure. That still will need to be imported into FCP and rewrapped into QT. The difference is that clips can already be named and logged.

I'll keep digging, but so far it's great.

Why are you importing into FCP? You end up doubling the size of your files for back-up i.e. the MXF and then the QT BUT then to add insult to injury FCP will STRIP and DELETE all the metadata within the clips :(

I would STRONGLY recommend Raylight which lets you edit MXF's dircectly in the timeline :) leaving none of the issues of using FCP

Indy.....

I also think Raylight is a better app... The ability to edit MXF's without any converting, and being able to rename clips to the User Clip Name are excellent features that this app doesn't seem to have.

Still a good program for viewing P2 footage though...

Granted, I'm on a mac, so this is only a casual observation-

The thing that I do not like about Raylight is that the 4 audio tracks cannot be imported directly via the app. Having to import them seperately is frustrating. Granted, most of the time track 3 & 4 are not needed, but when they are needed as reference tracks it is not fun trying to get them....

I'm just glad that Panny finally released an app that works on the mac. :)

Raylight/mac does import all 4 tracks.

After playing with this for a while, I was able to install it and get it running in 7.2 QT on a MacPro.

Note, you now can import mxf files directly into FCP. However, the audio and video come in separately.

FCP will give you alert indicating the files are not optimized for FCP, but dismiss that, and connect the audio files with the video files and you do have that ability to work with MXF directly.

Quite cool

Nice! How do you do that then? I was working with someone who was using Raylight to get the HVX footage into Vegas, and we could not figure out how to get audio tracks 3/4 directly imported along with the rest of the clip?

luckily i havent upgraded quicktime, and i'm doing a shoot this weekend so hoepfully this will help out. i need to buy me some raylight as well.

i jsut ingested some p2 footage with it, its freakin awesome! but it does suck that the audio doesnt come into fcp with it and its kinda of a pain to lock it all up. but its free and a time saver. i especially like being able to watch the clips while they are still on the p2 card. panasonic, +5pts.

The ability to scan and review the MXF files is great.

I don't see any particular advantage yet to using the P2CMS ingest vs. the FCP "log and transfer"...which by the way allows me to add log data. They seem to take about the same amount of time.

Maybe I should read the manual now to see what the fuss is.

Again great app but how is pulldown removal done if you want to use in FCP. As a viewer its great but 1080 /24pa is still in its 1080i interlace space.
