Best Adventure Film...

I gotta go with Noct -- THE FRRIGGIN GOONIES...
I enjoyed The Goonies greatly, but just couldn't bring myself to include it among the greatest adventures of all time.

They still count to me now...perhaps even more than ever. Raiders is my #3 on the Callaghan All-Time List, Forrest Gump is in the top ten, and both The Treasure of the Sierra Madre and King Kong are in the top twenty.
T'is one of my favorite genres in fact, come to think of it.

...The Pirate of the Caribbean - I can go with that...
So can I...so Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.

i'm not trying to be a dick when i say this, just genuinely curious....why does Adventures in Babysitting get so much props on here?

i'm sure i haven't seen it in at least 10 years....whats the big deal? it wasn't even memorable for me as a kid....

not trying to piss anyone off - i respect all opinions and tastes...

Hey, Chad, do you have a Top 100 list? I'd be interested in seeing it sometime to get a better idea where you are cinematically. So far, I like what I've seen.

I do now.

Oh...and thank you, Blaine, for giving me the motivation to do what I have been meaning to do for some time now (even if I did just burn 4 hours of my life putting it together.:Drogar-Thinking(DBG)

Cheers:beer: & enjoy http://callaghanfilms.com/_wsn/page5.html
DAMMIT! Now you've shamed me... mine'll be up in a moment.

EDIT: Okay, here is my list 1-50 and 51-100 (+1)

EDIT: I've had a chance to look over your list...quite impressive. There're only 5 movies on your list I'd quibble with. (I'm sure there are plenty on mine you'd have problems with too) Your list is weighted much more to the classics than mine, though I have a few of the classics myself. Thanks for sharing, I like your taste in movies...

Nice diverse list, my man.
I dig that you were able to fuse so many genres together (you even have a strong comedy presence...nice)

But, I gotta ask...
All time list?
Just One of the Guys?
&
Captain Ron?
(:evil:just being a ball-breaker:evil:)

Yeah, hehe, those are a couple of guilty pleasures that somehow stuck with me through the years. I can't say why but they really made me laugh.

btw, it was while watching the Vincent Price extra on the Laura DVD (#57 on your list) that the original idea of my feature Hollywood Gothic began to take shape.

Damn right, Rich!
I have fond memories of this early eighties vintage Gilliam adventure. Good call.

Holy Crap, how annoying. I listed my picks and by the time I connected all of the links, my username/password timed out and I lost everything.

So, I will make this quick...as I previously wrote...most of the swashbuckling, classic ADVENTURE flicks, as we've all come to know them have already been mentioned: "Ben Hur", "Robin Hood", "Lawrence of Arabia", etc...so, the following 10 flicks are what I would STILL consider ADVENTURE because they have adventure in them or the storytelling is moved by the adventure that the characters experience.

Also, if I could ever master the darned link/image/space thing, I would post images from the movie posters because, well, it just looks cool. However, I'm not even going to try. So, I'll just post the links...

Little Big Man http://yoursay.imdb.com/title/tt0065988/
Lord of the Rings (1-3, take your pick) http://yoursay.imdb.com/title/tt0167260/
North By Northwest http://imdb.com/title/tt0053125/
Back to the Future http://yoursay.imdb.com/title/tt0088763/
Wizard of Oz http://imdb.com/title/tt0032138/
Stand By Me http://yoursay.imdb.com/title/tt0092005/
The Straight Story http://yoursay.imdb.com/title/tt0166896/
Mad Max http://imdb.com/find?s=all&q=mad+max
Monty Python and the Holy Grail http://imdb.com/title/tt0071853/
The Great Escape http://imdb.com/title/tt0057115/

Again, I recognize that some of these picks cross genre lines. But, they work for me...

Rick
PS Time Bandits. I loved that growing up.

Wow, Kimko...
That's a sensational pick!

There have been several attempts at bringing Robert Louis Stevenson epic to the screen over the years, but the two finest IMO are...

Treasure Island (1934)

http://imdb.com/title/tt0025907/
Starring Wallace Beery, Jackie Cooper and Lionel Barrymore
(plus some of the top character actors of the day)

-and-

Walt Disney's Treasure Island (1950)

With Robert Newton as Long John Silver and Bobby Driscoll as Jim Hawkins

Man, I forgot all about that one. Thats a great pick.

Thanks Callaghan for posting the images. Personally, "LITTLE BIG MAN" is not just one of my favorite adventure stories, its one of my favorite all time movies. I watched it again a few months ago and that sucker still does not feel dated...
