Dave Stump Exclusive with Mike from Hd for indies

> like what?

As I understand it, one of Dave Stump's tests was to determine the sensor dynamic range, by shooting a chart at various exposures. Here's one that was posted at cinematography.net comparing two large-chip cine cameras, the Dalsa and Arri D20. http://www.cinematography.net/largel-chip.htm

I am hoping he will eventually post a similar sequence from RED, along with any specific observations he may have beyond that the image looks good.

He was very happy on the day.. said lots of nice comments, hes preparing a report right now from his notes.

Dave is very dedicated.. i was impressed how dedicated to his craft he is.. and his gaffer was equally impressive... the lighting setup was incredible.

Thanks for the peek at the setup! That greenscreen lighting looks very nice. I think I understand the test charts, but I wonder what the big white eyeball above them is? Don't tell me that's the RED prototype? :-)

Jim, can we get behind the scenes shots of the lighting setup sans Frankie (I know that is premature at this point)? I would just like to see how Mr. Stump and his gaffer approach things. I think alot of people here would agree. Thank you in advance.

Thanks Jarred (seems it is all that I say around here...) I would love it if you had more pics on the lighting set up, but this one certainly whets the appetite.

the big ball is one eyed jack.. an incredible invention by no other than David Stump himself... incredible tool for judging exposure, lighting ratios and contrast.

Pony!

It's interesting to compare that setup to the last setup... I'm definitely looking forward to the images.

heh heh heh yeah.. there is a huge difference between me and Jim screwing around shooting pumpkins on a non digital-greenscreen in the back with whatever lights we have kicking around Vs. a really good ASC Director of Photography and professional gaffer with a grip truck loaded with digital green stretch and green kinos.

the results where amazing... god i thought we had it good when 4:2:2 came along.. Redcode just kills it.
