Just thought I'd start a poll to help Jim and the team to decide make a Prime Lens Set or not.

1) YES - make a set, I want one now!

2) NO - don't I'm getting Zeiss or Cooke

I'm sure alot of people are thinking about lenses for their new RED.

Does it have to be YES or NO right now? We don't know anything about them. I vote for: 3) MAYBE - if the price is right and they compare well.

I think yes means if they were at the right price point, ie consistent with current Red pricing do you imagine you be likely to buy a set, not would you definitely. If you doubt that you would be able to afford it though you like the idea answer no. If you suspect that Red is likely to create something you would actually buy even though you wouldn't commit without knowing more answer yes. Maybe shouldn't figure because yes is effectively maybe.

Red T1.9

In my opinion anybody can say yes without the specifications of the lens, I think that 1.3 is much better than 1.9... In my case I will work all the time with the red zoom or red 300mm except in low light condition or when I need an 16mm. In this case I think that rent the lens is the better option. If red can make a set of T1.3 Master Primes I will buy it because it's 2 stop better than the red zoom lens and it is worth the trouble.

My idea of a set of 6:

14mm $4000
21mm $3700
32mm $3700
50mm $3500
75mm $3700
135mm $4000

But do the set of 6 for $17500 to match the price of the camera.

yeah okay not the best Poll questions but you can see what I'm getting at...
Just trying to give Jim the indication that we (I) really want them to make some Primes and the sooner we know the better business decision we can make.

Someone mentioned r&d costs? We still don't know officially from red where the lenses are going to be made other than in-house. Does that mean by Red or by Red-Oakley.

If it is Oakley then is the R&D costs completely seperate from the R&D costs of the red zoom.

In terms of R&D we still dont know if the red 300mm prime is a re-badged and rehoused canon prime or was it made by red or oakley exclusively for red? otherwise how come it is ready now?

I must say i would love to see red produce a 1.9 14mm prime for less than $3,000. It would surely encourage many people who demand a high quality wide angle lens for various reasons. Also 35mm still wide angle lenses of top quality are (i think) limited in supply at that equivelent range.

I think the 14mm T1.9 probably will cost way more than the 135mm with the same maximum aperture does.

I used Cooke S4 pricing differentials as a vague guide to guess how Red might price theirs, taking into account the current price of the Red zoom and the Red 300mm and extrapolating from that. Cooke price their S4 14mm T2 at $18750 and the 135mm T2 at $18700.

But it is just a guess. What would your guess be?

guys, FYI, we have zeiss primes 1.2-1.3 here for rental, and we still would welcome & probably buy the red 1.9.
Honestly said... shooting on the zeiss below 1.7-1.8 isn´t optimal.
