The update is that it's never gonna happen; for some reason you cannot make a simple USB->P2 adapter. There are reasons that the Panasonic units cost what they do; the cheap ones don't work and can't work. I tried to develop such a product with a company who could actually do it; they told me that yes they'd make it, yes it would do exactly what I'm asking, and yes it'd cost $2000.dhaworth said:shucks. anybody got an update on this issue?

What happened to this guy? That was a year and a half ago. Did he eventually come to same conclusion as Barry?Just to let everyone we're in beta on a single slot PCMCIA to USB with support for P2 cards on Macs (universal). Price will be around $160 and we hope to ship by October 1st.
Saying the hardware 'is in place' implies that side of things was working. I'm all for companies coming here to canvas for opinion and to let us know about new products, but it seems too many have over ambitious claims, which only serve as a disappointment to this community.Right now the hardware is in place (although we are still working on the casing) and we're testing the software side.

Hi Mark, I as many have been looking for a cost effective solution, I narrowed it down to the Amtron reader,--
http://www.amtron.com/reader/pcdtp110cs_picture.htm
I can't get one at my location to test in my G5 tower, Amtron don't ship OS, and their support/sales haven't responded to email requests. I would have thought that connecting the reader component of the Amtron pcdtp110 to the ATA (Optical) cable of a mac tower would work?. maybe the only thing stopping that may be a software/driver. surely that's not an impossible assignment.
cheers

USB is for mouse and keybord, not professional video. I would be much more interested Firewire, SATA, or express card adaptor... but I guess you gotta crawl before you can walk.
