$17,500

So between camera at $18, lens at $5, recording device at $5?, and monitoring at $2... you're looking at $30K for something that is going to be a Varicam / Cinealta / Viper killer... That's 1/3 the price. I'm geeking out over this.

Oh, add $10K for editing and storage upgrade, still, that's 1/3 of the competition, if you can even call them competitive anymore.

This would give the VariCam's and CineAlta's a run for the money. Looks like a Spielberg/Lucas inspired design, or a James Cameron "termicam". Those people running higher end cams can probably jump on board. That price will scare away the DVX "I wanna an HD cam" people.

Speaking of computer power, it's going to take a hefty beast to edit/post on 4K! Hopefully there is some serious muscle out by the time this beast is released, Moore's Law needs to kick it up a notch!

lets not jump the gun, the picture you see a rendered 3D model. it's not an actual picture of the unit. I want this camera now! but it's still a concept, maybe it will be released in 1 to 2 years.

I'll be shooting 1080p for a good long while. What's cool is, once the tech catches up, you'll be ready for it. And if I end up with this cam, I WILL get that cage! Like having a FigRig already built in.

I'll probably buy a RED camera in 2-3 years. It's great to know that, because now I'm certain I'm going to be shooting SD DVX until then.

I want to buy RED stock!

The cage idea is great but those cages "look" like they would work very well, except maybe the gun cage. Probably too early to talk about.

Suddenly refining my scripts and make the best of them is more important than looking for an affordable way to film them.

Thanks Jim, you were and are their Shrike!

WOW! this is beyond exciting. I looked that the cage design and about flipped. We've been making film and video cameras for over 100years now and to see the cage it just made sense. Accessorizing a camera can be a pain, but the cage will make that much easier. Probably too many mounting options. :)

I sure hope they can hold the price. I guess I won't be buying that new sports car. :)

I could be wrong, but I think I remember hearing they were shooting for a release by the end of this year.

And Kholi, you better make a post quick. You're at post #666.

CRAP!

Not number 666!

Okay 667 here.

Anyway, if the release is the end of the year, then I know what camera our company will have.

Any word on how you'd acquire these images?

Perfect Arsenal!!!

Perfect Arsenal!!!

That release date is PERFECT. I'm glad it is a year away. Now I can buy an HVX, use that for two years, and then move up to Red!!! I figure buying one year after the initial release will ensure all the bugs get fixed and also allow for editing software to catch up.

Currently I'm just starting a post house in OKC. I already have a DVX so an HVX will be a welcome member to the family. In 2 - 3 years, after buying a Red, I'll have a camera for every possible job! It's a perfect 3 stage arsenal!!!!

RED -
big budget HD commercial projects, indie features & shorts, (possible rental)

HVX -
midrange HD commercial projects, mid-low range DvcPro50 commercial projects, miniDV event photography

DVX - 2nd camera miniDV event photography

Plus, by using the HVX for 2 years, I'll be slowly upgrading my editing system for HD! By the time Red hits, it'll all be ready!
