I'm thinking about buying this lens, but I'm not sure of the behaviour in movie mode with the GH1 :

-Can it autofocus before recording a 1080p video ?
-Can it re-focus (shutter button half-pressed) while recording a 1080p video ?
-Can it autofocus while recording 720p video ?

-Does it needs an adapter to be mounted on GH1 ?

Seems like a dream lens speaking of focal range and aperture, but I'm a bit concerned about using it for handheld shots because of limited focus support.

Any feedback on this lens ?

I have the older one with f3,5, but I can tell you:

-Can it autofocus before recording a 1080p video ?
On a proper 4/3rds to MFT-adapter: yes

-Does it needs an adapter to be mounted on GH1 ?
Yes, either the Panasonic DMW-MA 1 or the one from Olympus (MMF-1)

As I don´t have it I can´t be sure about the other questions.

Actually, MMF-1 is an older adapter made by Olympus and autofocus will NOT work with it on Panasonic bodies. You need the MMF-2 for autofocus to function. However, I would go for the Panasonic copy, because it is cheaper.

I recently purchased that lens with Panasonic adapter and I can confirm that it is a "YES" to all of your questions :)

The Olympus 14-54mm f2.8-3.5 Mark II is an awesome lens. I've found it to be far more flexible than the Panasonic 14-140mm f5.6ish kit lens. I sold my two 14-140's easily on Ebay and bought the Panasonic 45-200mm f4-5.6 IS lens to go with the Oly. For auto-focus zooms on the GH1, this combo can't be beat for anything close to the price.

hows the fly-by-wire of 14-54? is it bi-directional? MF a lot easier than 20mm pancake's?

im torn between oly 14-54 and tamron 17-50. definitely i can see the oly zoom is great for photo and 28mm equivalent.

I am also torn between the Oly and the Tamron. What about Oly 14-54 Mk1? I know that it will not auto-focus but, as I am only interested in video, for me that is not an issue.

And then there is that Leica 14-50 OIS. I am really keen on the OIS but from what I understand Leica's manual focusing is not great for video (and the lens breathes a lot). Can anybody confirm this?

Of course, Tamron is faster then the other two. Ahhh, I hate decisions...

What's sweet about the Oly 14-54 Mark II in MF with the GH1 is that you can set it to automatically activate Focus-Assist magnification the instant you turn the focus ring on the lens. This occurs only when you're setting up a shot, however, not while a video is being recorded.

If I want to do a follow-focus move during a video, I practice it with Focus-Assist before the take, and get a good feel for the precise start and end points of the move ahead of time. Then while the video is rolling, I'm able to perform the move from memory, without distraction from Focus-Assist.

Since this is a four thirds lens, the effective field of view is the same as a micro 4/3 14-54mm?
Is the autofocus much slower than the kit lens?

Hi I sold my panasonic 140mm and bought the Olympus 14-54mm f/2.8-3.5 II Zuiko Digital and a bunch of FD lens. I love those lens btw. I allso bought a fotodiox adapet OM.m4/3. The lens does not work for me. The focus does not work manual or auto and the apature stays open> Is there something I am doing wrong? Bad lens? Wrong adapter?

please if anyone uses this lens with a Gh2 lemme know what's up

thanks
J

The Olympus 14-54mm f/2.8-3.5 is not compatible with a Fotodiox OM to M4/3 adapter. It requires the Panasonic or Olympus Four Thirds to Micro Four Thirds adapter.
