AC160 Zooming on the ag-ac160

Coming from the Canon XH-A1 and the Panny HMC40, I have found the zoom on the 160 to be almost unusable while filming. I am using a varizoom controller and find that even at the slowest setting, the zoom is still too fast and the start and stop are very abrupt. Am I doing something wrong? Is there another controller that can control the camera better? Is this just something I have to learn to deal with? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I ordered the Prozoom remote. We will see if it makes a difference. I am hoping that the ability to set the zoom speed might be able to slow down the zoom a little bit. I will report back when I receive it.

@Johnathan.. Good move. I bought a ProZoom and spent a lot of time testing it and expanding the diameter of the focus knob.

In my view, you get super smooth zooms with this remote.

Looking forward to receiving your comments.

Hi Walter, Rod here,
how did you record the sound? sounded sort of venue but also close miked- very agreeable!- and how far were you from the stage?

Hi, Rod,

Nice to hear from you.

I was 35 feet from the stage, 1 channel from sound board, 1 Rod Video on -camera mic .

It does give it a bit of a stereo effect because C.Hh1 picks up stage mics only, whereas CH2 gets the audience plus the room and stage speakers.
