Zoom vs Prime question?

Trying to get opinions on the need to have a zoom in addition to primes in your lens kit.
My question is this...
Is there any point in getting a zoom that covers the same focal ranges that you already have covered with your faster fixed prime lenss.
Thanks

It depends on what you do. If you do work where changing lenses quickly isn't a big issue then just stick with the primes. If you do more event work or less controlled work where you need to change lenses really quickly or else you'll miss a good shot then you should grab a zoom lens as well. Zooms are a lot more versatile than primes. Primes just look better.

That depends. If you're using the camera for still photos, having a zoom lens would be convenient. For video you wouldn't have the hassle of continually switching lenses. It depends what you're shooting though and for what reasons. Do you need to zoom in and out? If you don't already own the primes, and can get by with a lens that has a higher aperture that offers different options you may be able to save some money (depending on what lenses you want that is). Do you need the absolute sharpest, and fastest lens? It probably won't be a zoom at this point (correct me if I'm wrong). Not sure if this rant helps you any.

For stills, I use Canon zooms.
For indie films, where I want the same shot with 3 different angles, then I use Nikon primes.
