Zoom on the DVX

I posted this question once before and found a work around but I would like to know if anyone else experiences the same problem...

When I zoom into something and then go wide the motor jerks the picture ever so slightly. The work around is to first zoom in then zoom out just a little... then start recording and zoom out the rest of the way..

If find this annoying and I wonder if my camera is broken or this a design flaw?

Where is a good Panasonic repair place on Long Island?

I have heard of others experiencing this same problem but have never been able to replicate it myself. I rarely use servo zoom, but I have done some tests, trying to replicate it and have never seen it. Maybe I am just lucky.

Just curious if you are doing these zooms while on a tripod? If so, do you have the OIS on or off? That may be the cause of the jerkyness. It should be off if on a tripod. Learned that one from Barry's book!:cheesy:

As far as I know, it's inherent in the system. It comes from the fact the there is a little slop between the servo motor and lens gear. When you reverse direction on the servo, the slop moves toward the other side. It is most noticable in the slow zoom.

There is only two work arounds; don't use power zoom and just slightly touch the zoom in the new direction to take up the slack, then do the shot with the zoom.

I wish for a real Micro-Force Zoom system. $$$$

Astro,
That little bump is "normal" with the 100/A. There is a mechanical linkage between the servo and manual modes, the bump is the gears engaging. "Pre-loading" the zoom by zooming out a tad is pretty much the only workaround. There's nothing to repair.
Hope this helps.
