ZombieFest DVD Box Set ... ?

What a shame that so many never made it to the DVD .

As you said Robert there is a few I would've like to see again , especially on T.V .( No Compression issues and all )
maybe some of the ones who didn't make could always trade DVDs .. just a thought .
I think Jarred mentioned somewhere about a bootleg style DVD for the ones that didn't make it .

I did keep many of those clips onto my desk top for viewing...........Ian

yeah sorry guys.. we tried to get em all on there.. but putting out a 6 disk disk woulda been way too expensive. Honestly though, some of the behind the scenes and making of videos are worth the price alone.. some nice camera trick tips and lighting tricks.

Ah, well

Ah, well

I know Jarred said somewhere else it was going to get crazy getting in touch with everyone who's movies he had problems with.

It wouldn't bother me except that there's been no attempt to contact me, and no response to any of my questions about it. Were we omitted because we weren't in the top 50? Were we omitted because of technical problems with the DVD submission files?

It's just disappointing to not get the courtesy of a response.

Not to rattle anyone's (Jarred's) feathers, but...

yes, I agree. I was very disappointed by the omission and felt the Zombiefest DVDs should have then only featured the top 25 or something like that rather than selectively deciding who made it on or not. Speaking for myself, and I think several others, I know I would have paid 5-10 dollars more for the entire festival on 5 or 6 dvds.

That said, what bothers me more than selectively being omitted from the DVD edition of the festival is not being told beforehand. It was rather... shocking and disappointing and a little hurtful to have to find out by looking at screen grabs of the DVD menu.

I know my movie was hardly a perfect 10, but it was my movie. If it wasn't going to be on the DVD, I felt we should have been told before hand. Which again, I just don't get why all of them weren't on there. The best, the worst... all of them, warts and all.

I hope this doesn't get me banned, but it has been on my mind for awhile now and I felt I needed to vent about it. It has made me leary of even bothering to enter the Sci-Fest because will my hard work be tossed in the garbage again?

Anyway, that's about it. Again, hope this doesn't piss anyone off, but I felt I needed to say it. And now I have. :lipsrseal

You're not on the DVD? ****, I loved your film. ONe of my highest rated. :(

Robert, if THAT was venting ... trust me, you're courteous enough in that post, you won't be getting banned.

I didn't make the DVD cut either.

I got to meet Jarred in person a couple weeks ago, while in Vancouver BC for the X3 shoot, and it helped to sink something in .... that he's just one person, and just like any of us. I know on this forum Mod's can hit an almost god-like status ... I'm sure similar to celebrities in other walks of life. I mean, they're on here ALL the time, they've got a TON of posts, and tend to know a LOT about a broad range of topics.

Bottom line, I believe the Zombie Fest got out of hand. No one expected it to get THAT much more attention than the previous small fests, and it quickly became a matter of just trying to keep up, let alone have it turn out as perfectly as one would hope. With still having to earn a living, Jarred was understaffed & overwhelmed with the magnitude of problems (DVD issues, submission issues, voting issues, etc.) it brought with it. Just like we learned a TON by being motivated & following through with the short (of what works, and what not to do next time), the same has to be true for Jarred/Barry as well with festival(s).

What doesn't kill you will make you stronger, right? So, I'm expecting incredible things this next go-around, both from all the member's shorts, as well as from Jarred & his team with regards to the voting process, submissions, DVD's, etc. I hope as many of the ones who entered before will be in this one as well, as I especially want to see the improvements everyone has made from learning from the past experience.

Very true, Norm. No argument here on any of it. I think my biggest complaint would have just been to let people who didn't make the cut know beforehand and not let them find out by looking at the screen grabs of the DVD. It was mucho sucko.

I give Jarred a world of credit for running this awesome site AND being a professional working in the field. That takes a lot of juggling and obviously he loves what he does, on both fronts.

I was glad to be a part of the festival that got away, LOL, and just feel/felt all of us should have been acknowledged on the DVD or at least been told we weren't going to be on there. That's all.

Hopefully next time I am up in V.C. I will get to say hi to the man himself. My wife loves it up there and we try to go every couple of years.

Sorry you guys feel hurt.. I will refund your entry fees... oh wait a minute.

You guys need to realize I am doing this because I like you all. It ends up costing me a lot of money to pull these things off so I feel a little agitated when people start complaining. I intended to put all 80 on the DVD at the beginning.. but when half the people sent me DVD's with fields in the wrong order, wrong pulldowns, wrong formats, I could only do so much. Sorry I couldnt hold everyone's hand and come over to thier house and tell them I'm sorry they didnt make it on the DVD.

What was I supposed to do? Email everyone that didnt make it, with a page long explanation? you know I would of gotten responses like "why?" and "let me fix it".. I did that already, I gave people opportunity to upload via FTP and send things again way way way past the deadline. After 2 weeks, I had to stop. Also, the whole 4 disk thing instead of 6 disk thing.. Remember.. im paying for this all upfront.. and 6 disks was just to expensive, I would of had to sell them for $30 each and I didnt want to do that.

So sorry everyone that didnt make it, it wasn't because your film sucked, it was because we either didnt get your DVD, we got it but it didnt work, or it just didnt make the 4 disks. I still sent you a Tshirt, for free, so get off my back.. I love you all, but there is only so much I can take of people bitching to me when Im trying so hard to make these fests something special.

A six-disc set is just kind of nutty... If you do a Sci-Fest DVD, maybe you should limit it to the top vote-getters that can fit on a single disc or something... did you replicate those or something? That'd be some massive expense up front! And if you're duplicating them, that's either a big ol' expense or a whole lotta time...

I think a one-disc "greatest hits" is a reasonable compromise.

the SCI-fest DVD is going to be one dvd.. i made my mind up on that along time ago... so good thinking Barry we are on the same page.

I just can't imagine the complaints i will get, but so be it.
