Zombie Parkour - The Flipping Dead

A video I helped a friend with. I did the editing and also helped with the filming. It was a fun project!

Did you have much trouble keeping the makeup on?

It was cool but it could have been so much better. As it is it is just another parkour video (in a very cool setting admittedly) with a makeup gimmick. I think parkour is cool but the videos no longer wow me, don't go down the skating video route of more of the same. I've only seen a couple of skating videos that were worth my attention in years and both were going somewhere or doing something...not just tricks, we've all seen tricks. We're numb to them.

There was a taste of narrative in the last few seconds that you should have capitalised on. Should have had a non-parkour 'victim' on the run from them with all these crazy zombie guys bouncing all over the place (a la mummy II) as he runs directly and non-skilfully away from them. Using flares and environmental features to distract them and such. His advantage has to be thinking, the parkour zombies have to outmatch him physically. A bit of hiding, a bit of running, getting high ground and thinking he's safe only to have the zombies run/climb straight up it, then a big scary jump (for the 'non-parkour' chasee) to reach a getaway vehicle or something. You could have made much better use of the location that way and then the parkour would become the cool gimmick for your action zombie video.

The action shots you got were well thought out and effectively carried out, the editing was good. But with some putz in the back of every other shot, clumsily scrambling to get away: the cool action would become cool motivated action. The sequences would have dramatic tension and purpose. Next time consider elevating your artform. It won't require much more than a slight shift in approach to what you are already doing. I'd watch something like that a second time and send links to my buddies. Either way, good luck with your next one, this is one of the more interesting parkour videos I've seen even without the makeup. The location is fantastic. I don't think anyone will ever beat the parkour dog though...
