Zhiyun Crane

That's not good. Since no one else has complained about it, I'd say your's has a defect or tuning issue. I.e. it's not an inherit design problem.

Thanks for the help. I'm returning it. I might buy another one at a later date.

Update: 2 people at Zhiyun customer support looked at the video and guessed it might have something to do with the camera being unbalanced. Nah. The issue happened with multiple different lenses on the camera, all perfectly balanced. So they don't know the reason.

Hello,

anybody here have managed to stabilize a gh4 + metabones + sigma 18/35 ?

With the amount of people having this combo + the amount of crane sell, i can't believe i cannot find any infomation about that ! :(

The weight is 1500g approx, so that should fit in the limit, but that should be very front heavy so i don't know if it feasable.

Anyone manage to equilibrate that combo with any electronic gimbal at all ?

Thanks .

I dont have the 18-35, I believe the 18-35 is too long/front heavy to able to balance it, even its under the max load.

Curious how people are cabling the Crane for HDMI out to a 4K recorder. (I have the original A7S, not the II)
How do they avoid pulling on the motors, constricting the range of the camera or getting caught depending on the movement ?
I'm thinking of buying a Sanho or Nanosecond ultrathin HDMI cable, but not sure if even 0.8m is long enough if I follow the path of the gimbal arm up from the recorder.

Anyone ? Pictures are appreciated too...

You don't.

The whole idea of this gimbal is to be light and nimble.

Neither of which is possible tethering to a 2lb+ external recorder.

Well, several others already have though I have only seen one photo. (see post no 54), but curious if he experienced binding.
Further, I use it on a glidegear Horn for neckstrap and doublehanded fig rig like support.
Not to mention an eventual radio FF and cabled torque motor.
I don't need a Ronin for this with an A7S, it still falls into an acceptable weight range of 1600Gr on the gimbal itself (even with the torque motor added) and remains very light overall.

Yep. Thanks for posting those.
(I've had the ZC for a few months now, but I never felt like tinkering with the settings; might try now)

Haha, definitely not like me. But I got burnt several times with simpleBGC on my N4000, so I developed a fear of tinkering with gimbal settings. The ZC works great out of the box, and I left everything "as is"; I may just try a bigger dead zone and higher smoothing parameter, but really, I could happily go on with the default settings!

I'm thinking of buying another Crane and had a question. What are people doing when using the Crane and, for example, walking through different rooms in a house where the lighting is dark in one room and much brighter in the next room then dark again, etc..?

It's hard to get my hand in there to adjust the aperture ring, so do you guys set the ISO to "auto"? Or does that look silly to the viewer if it changes like that? Or maybe I could just set the exposure for the "average" of the different rooms and fix it in post???

Just get a wireless (or even wired) control unit if available for your camera. On GH4 I mount my phone with Lumix app to control settings wireless + monitor.

Depending on your camera exposing for the middle might be best and then adjusting with keyframes in post for a smooth transition. This will depend of course on your specific footage and needs.

Usually I just cut if possible.

A wireless to do what? Control the aperture? I'm not sure I can do that with the a7sII. There is a toy-like app that Sony makes for the phone but it doesn't work with the full menu (like with slog-2).

Besides, I think it might be best to just let the dark rooms be dark and expose for the highlights in the bright rooms. It's not a real estate video where people need to see all the rooms anyway. Plus, it might add a level of spookiness to not see what's in the dark rooms. :)

Like when you're walking down the hall and you see the bedroom door cracked open. You stop and take a look inside. The hinges creak. Dark in there, but a dim light comes from under the closet door. You hear the rumblings of the forgotten one moving around. The one who was downcast and forsaken. You hear his heaving breath. You're locked in fear. He grunts and it shakes the floor. He knows you're there. You see a flash of his razor-like teeth. His claws scratch the wall as he poises to strike.

Since you were a child you knew this day would come. The day when the unholy would reappear to re-claim his son. And that son is you. From the bowels of hell, he hath risen. From the bowels of hell, he caaaaame!!!!!!!

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

(Sorry, I've been drinking a lot of Chablis Blanc the last 2 days)

I already placed my order. I also had a problem with the Crane before so I need to be able to return it easily if needed.
