Zeiss ZF question

I pulled the trigger this morning and purchased a Zeiss 35mm 1.4 ZF.2 to go along with the 85mm ZF. I’m looking for a used Zeiss 50mm 1.4 ZF then send them off to be Cine Moded.

What do you think?

Zeiss ZF
35mm 1.4
50 1.4
85 1.4

Me likey!

I think I'm just a little envious. I thought I would be happy with my Contax/Zeiss 25-35-50, now I'm thinking ZF would be nice. Of course by then you'll probably have a CP set. Damn, there's always something else.

As Shooter would say, "Good on ya, Mate"

I like those CP.2’s a bunch but they’re still to pricey for me at $4K each. I think I found a happy middle and look forward to having a matching set of primes. My line up is all over the place because I was collecting along the way and figuring out what would work best for me.

I’m thinking I should add the 28mm 2.0 as well for a set of four. That would pretty much drain me when you add $1K for the cine mod.

28mm 2.0
35mm 1.4
50mm 1.4 or Makro 2.0?
85mm 1.4

Consider the 25mm/f2 instead of the 28mm f/2. If they're comparable price, you might appreciate the little bit wider field of view.

Thanks Barry good suggestion. I was looking for info on which ones in the line up are considered the best. Any thoughts?

Hard to say, I bought 'em all. Well, the older versions. I think the 100mm is probably in general the best, and the 35mm is a delightful lens on the AF100. I know some folks don't like the 18 but I use it a lot. There's a lot of congestion in the 18/21/25/28 range; if I could pick only one, I'd find it hard. The 21 is probably the least necessary, and I doubt you'd need both the 25 and the 28, so if I could only have two from among that group I'd probably go with the 18 and 25. It was harder to answer before, when the 25 was a 2.8 (which is what I have) and the 28 was a 2.0, and that's why I have both. But now with a 25/2.0 it makes it easier to pick a limited set.

Get the 50mm Makro and never look back. Oh so sharp, buttery focus ring and macro! I got a mint used one from lensrentals, and they have lots of other used Zeiss, although some are ZF.1, but there is basically no difference when using for video.

I’m thinking again. Man I hate it when I do this.

How versatile is the Nikon mount on other digital cinema cameras like PL mount. Red, Sony F3, C300 ect. I sure would hate to fork out cash on a limited mount.
I dont think there is a Nikon to PL adapter right?

I do not know of a PL to F mount adapter, but there are F mounts for Red cameras.

And given that the F mount has a very long flange focal distance it can be adapted with a simple physical adapter to most another mount. In particular, the EOS to F mount adapters are very simple, and inexpensive. I've used my F mount lenses on several Red's with Canon mounts.

IMO, If you can afford the CP.2 PL versions I would do that, but otherwise the ZFs are the next best thing.

I'm loosing it.

I have the RED 17-50 so If I add a 85mm CP.2 I have a full set of lenses. Sort of. I've rented a set of CP.2 along side using my 17-50 and it worked well however the Zeiss is sharper than the RED is and I'm afraid of inconsistent looks from them.
I cant test them side by side right now because I sent the Red off to get the hood upgrade. I have a big shoot coming up mid march and need to get this lens situation figured out.
