Other: ZEISS LWZ.3 21-100mm/T.2.9-3.9 T Announced

You may be right. It is too early to make hasty decisions.
But I don't normally shoot with the 15.5mm at full wide, so if I can prove to myself that I can get by with the 21mm at the wide end, it would be great to have 100mm at the long end instead of just 45mm.
I will be paying a lot of attention to the wide angle focal lengths I use over the next couple of months and try to limit myself to 21 to see how it feels. There's no sense in having a $15,000 LWZ sitting in it's case not being used. I already have more lenses than I need.

There is a huge gap in the market for a small 1" 4k sensor camera with SLog3 and high bitrate codec.

if the Z150 had S-LOG and XAVC-I it might have filled this gap. But even with XAVC-L and no LOG mode, I actually think it looks pretty damn good for a $3100 camera complete with 12x zoom, center scan, continuous 120 fps slow-motion in full HD and more. I've said it before and I'll say it again, a lot of people would be better served with a camera like this than fumbling around with a S35 camera and lenses that make it hard to get the job done.

In the last couple of years everything I ever used a WA on has moved to the gimbal right now I have the Zeiss Batis 18mm on a Sony a6300. I have no problems matching the footage to the fs7 especially when using log. I think the stabilizer is here to stay as "wide angle camera"
thats kind of how it works for me. The Lwz looks like a long term general "outdoors" lens. It's not limited by propriotary mounts and free from electronics with real lens mechanics unlike the canon 18-80 or the roumored 18-110.

What gimbal do you use for the A6300.. I bought one for any sort of under the radar shooting.. but TBH have never used it yet.. I thought of a gimbal.. but now the variable focus length lens Osmo is looking good.. and they are so easy to get up and running quickly.. re the a6300.. Pic profile 7 and 8 are the logs are they not.. but they both seem to have some auto LUT switched on.. ?

Thanks for any advice

I got this:
https://www.owldolly.com/
The ds1 and also the hand grip adapter. I bought it assuming it's not going to really work ready to return it.
but it works like a charm it's very quick to set up takes a minute or two. I have it ready to go when shooting yes it has a lut for viewing log the 18mm Batis is super sharp and coupled with the 4K on the Sony you can easily crop on it in 1080. I even have this:
http://tentaclesync.com/
to feed jam sync Ed time code from the mixer.
with the extremely useful AF on the s6300 I can even shoot at 2.8 and track focus although I prefer to be at 5.6-8 that combined with the 55 otus on s speed/booster on the fs7.
ive been going through weeks of production without changing anything.

How Im actually rolling this weekend, this lot will go in a small billingham bag - I might even give them a dust!

10-24
20 2.8 (only for night)
50 1.8
28-85
135 2.8
180 2.8
booster and regular adapter

Ok great.. thanks for the info.. what native ISO do you rate the a6300 for log shooting.. thanks

To this endless discussion can a 50$ lens do what a 4000$ lens can - no Absolutely not.
will the average client notice? Probably not or maybe
do you want to work with average clients? **** no!

we are quite OT..
I would not shoot log with the a6300. After testing a lot I ended in Cine4 / CineEI. It gives some headroom to match with other cameras but does not stretch the poor 8bit like log. With the a6300 even the much cheaper ms1 works quite well. I bought it and expected to send it back after a test but i was surprised and kept it. With some practice it does the job quite well. With the a6300's rolling shutter you should void fast panning anyhow.

The a6300 has Cine EI mode..?

I think it's like the hg7 usually you just need to adjust contrast and highlights and shadow and you're there. It's not cine i.e. the kits are set and help viewing like the c300 in log.

In extreme situations it's probably better to avoid log especially slog3. I still do it out of convenience because the client has an easier time matching the cams with a lut. Have I run into any problems (Banding etc.) not yet will I have a shot in the future that would have been better not shot in log? Probably.
