Zeiss Compact Prime II Lenses

I'm considering possibly investing in some high end glass in the future for my 5D and the Zeiss Compact Prime II Lenses really caught my eye.

Assuming the RED Scarlet is everything everyone hopes it will be, I'm sure I'll invest in one down the road. Probably the FF35 model. I'd like to be able to invest in some good glass once and use it with the Scarlet and my 5D.

Thoughts?

I'll wait for the next version that has the same T stop throughout the range of lenses.

The T-stops are pretty low. Do you really think you would need them faster? I can't imagine using faster than T2.9 most of the time even with the 50mm & 85mm T1.5 especially on a FF sensor.

I wouldn't hold my breath for a FF35 model. Not even certain that an S35 model will happen now. Just doesn't seem to make sense if they want to sell Epic's. Radio Silence around anything but the 2/3's model...

Absolutely, since I already have Nikon primes that are F2.0/f1.4.

Spending this kind of money on glass, when there are plenty of superspeeds out there on the market with T1.3 just doesn't make sense.

That's a good point. Another reason why I'm more interested in getting this glass for my 5D right now.

The speed of the glass is only one factor. I don't need faster glass, I need sharper glass and better lens control.

They also have...

  • 300 degree focus rotation
  • 14 blade round aperture
  • Focus and iris gears built in
  • Color matched glass
  • and other exclusive advantages since they are designed as Cine lenses.
