ZazaJib - It's a slider, it's a jib...It's both at the same time!

The video looks great. The jib looks really clean. Did you machine the platform and pivot yourself?
No, just design then I have a local CNC shop produce the pieces. FYI... Prototypes can get very expensive!

I think the 3 foot rail or a little longer is about right. Any shorter may limit the camera movement too much. IMO the key to reduced weight is still the material cut outs that I previously mentioned or being able to obtain the "reduced weight" rail mentioned here http://www.igus.com/wpck/default.aspx?PageNr=7189.

I'd love to try it even though I don't think it will make that much of a difference (then again when you're hiking with this stuff, every ounce counts)...but again, the US Rep told me that rail isn't available in the USA. I'm sending him an email to check again.

EDIT: Just checked that link again... the cutout rail is only available in 10-40mm or 10-80mm rail.... my stuff is all 16-60mm.

I bet! I'll be looking in to see if it gets out of prototype stage, like the slider. I'd modify mine like this in a heartbeat. Great stuff!

Thanks for the encouragement hscully.... I'll keep yopu posted.

I've been playing some more and this is meeting all my expectations so far. I'm surprized that there isn't more interest? It's just what I needed and thought others would too.
Considering what other jibs cost, adding these parts to your slider is pretty economical (I'm looking at $350-$400 at this point). Do you think that's in the ballpark for the indie filmmaker?

ZAZA, I think it would be great to modify the design to allow for the entire length of the slider usable. The extra length would really set it apart from the current rigs available.

By loosening two thumb screws, you can have use of the whole length (minus about 1.5 inches) of the slider on the tripod.... remove the thumb screws and one knob from the front...and it's ready for low shots!
