Hi,

What do you think about this. I'm a little sceptic if i want this kind of "construction" on my camera .

Does anybody know any other VF's for the C100 Display ?

best regards

I own this exact setup. The optics and construction are second to none. The rubber bands are a little funky. They just don't hold the screen in place when I put prolonged pressure on the Zfinder. However, I really think Zacuto did the best they could do with an articulating screen. Please keep in mind that you can remove the extender frame making the device a little shorter depth wise. Overall, I would say this is currently the best loupe solution.

I have one also and on mine there is no way my bands are holding that viewfinder in that position. It just falls. The bands only really seem to hold it much further up....and even then it falls easily. The actual Zfinder is built like a tank....quality stuff....but it's so heavy that the bands are basically useless.

We are experiencing abnormally sunny weather in Ireland these days and using the C100 LCD is very difficult. Also having glasses on makes the EVF useless due to light leak. I'm going to have to look in to this device or a hood for the EVF.

btw would the bands work better if they were wrapped round the top handle or fixed to it somehow?

I have tried this and they do work better if you are creative with them. However....because of the rotation of the viewfinder, you need to be careful that both sides of the evf have equal tension. IN particular if the inside band is tighter and you lift the EVF, it tends to turn inward a little. This can be tricky. I think zacuto was clever to use the existing bolt for this as it is very nearly on center with the viewfinder. However....it would seem no matter how clever they are, there is no getting around the bizzare placement and rotation of the LCD from Canon.

Is that an extender frame on there? How do you remove it? Mine came with that attached and it doesn't seem to want to be removed easily. I find this model zfinder a little too long to start with.....

Just wondering if anyone has tried it for left-eye dominant people?
I'm assuming it works OK but the Z-Bands are putting me off so I'm being super cautious!

One idea.

A couple of years back, I was using a 60D with a similar articulated screen for various shoots and I used a magnetic-attached LCDVF loupe.

To get around the issue of articulated LCD "droop", I fixed a large velcro cable tie permanently around the loupe and then another smaller one looped through the camera strap eye. It then allowed me to adjust the LCD/EVF and simply press the smaller velcro cable tie onto the larger velcro strap around the loupe. This was more than strong enough to press my eye against and stabilise the camera.

You could do this by hooking a smaller cable tie onto the measuring peg of the C100, using the slot at the end of the velcro tie. No more elastic malarkey - and adjustable to any angle you want.

Not particularly elegant, but may be more solid than Zacuto's idea - I'm surprised that they haven't made a bit more effort with this design.

And, hey, you could call them "zelcros" and hope know one would question it... :-)

Ben.

I just wish Canon had been a bit more giving and simply plonked the C300 EVF on there! Instead we have to fiddle with 3rd party add ons that sort of maybe probably might work!

I'm going to go down the route of a eye piece for the EVF first as that z-finder band combo looks a little iffy.

Mine came attached as well. To remove, simply squeeze near the center of the ZFinder over the joint between the extender frame and the frame which attaches to the articulating screen.

IF I remove this part, does it actually help any with the size? As I said, one of my main concerns was that it made the camera far too "long" on the back. I don't mind the C100 handle normally, but somehow when I have the zfinder mounted it pushes my right hand too far forward and cause some discomfort in my wrist. I tried the 7D again with Zfinder and it feels right with no strain holding it. The zfinder for the 7D is probably 33% shorter....so I guess I am trying to emulate that.

I need it since I'm farsighted. Take it off and try it. With my Z-finder pro I have to have all three on. I hate being farsighted.
