C100: Zacuto Studio Baseplate + Sony VCT U 14- is it possible?

I was just wondering if anyone had had any success mounting a Zacuto studio plate to a quick release plate such as the VCT U14. Any help, suggestions or advice much appreciated. Thanks

I was looking into this, Saf.

Zacuto make a "Zeddie Wedgie" which will only fit the studio baseplate. In theory, that should slot into a VCT U14 - but I didn't get that far, as I didn't want to go for the Studio Plate. Also, it will only give you one point of contact (the V Wedge) and not the additional rear securing pin that the VCT plates have - arguably their main advantage over other plate sytems.

My experience/tips:

- The Tilta shoulder mount/plate (http://cvp.com/index.php?t=product/tilta_bs-t03) works very well and fits very solidly on a VCT.

- Don't buy a cheap Chinese copy VCT Plate - the VCT plate needs to be carefully manufactured to tight tolerances. Buy the Sony (and I was advised by several colleagues to not buy the U version, which has a lot more plastic parts and gets baggy quickly.)

- If you've bought a Zacuto Studio Plate already, I'd suggest going with one of their quick release systems.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the reply. I've taken your advice and bought the tilta plate plus VCT 14. The studio plate i have came bundled with my c100 when i bought it so i'm going to sell that on as i don't actually think it's that good and don't want to be tied to Zacuto products. I'll post pictures of my finished rig when all the bits arrive.

Thanks again Ben much appreciated!

Saf, I should add that you will probably need to consider some kind of monitor or EVF on the side of the C100, as the Tilta lifts it all up into an ENG-style position. I recommend a Ninja Blade - I've posted various pics recently, with recommendations for mounts and cables etc. You can use that combo quite happily for BBC Panorama broadcast material and it can all break down to a smaller size when you need stealth.

Thanks Ben, i'm currently stuck with a Ninja 2. I bought it just before the blade was announced so will need to offload it at a loss and round up some loose Pounds to get the blade! In terms of mounting i bought the Edelkrone evf and have a colourful array of thin, thick, short, long and articulating HMDI cables :)...
