C300: Zacuto Recoil and the Tornado-Zdrive follow focus.

I am have been seriously exploring the the v2 recoil with the grip relocator with the Tornado follow focus. One of the things that I have come to realize is that there are not a lot of people buying these. I have trialed it at B & H and it really seems like a great solution to gearing up. I have been patient because every little piece is expensive and I don't want to be wrong about it.

Can anyone that has used the rig give me a heads up on how it compares to the others out there. Is the Tornado follow focus as good as it looks?

Thanks,

I like mine a lot. The Z-Drive is great and so are the other bits. The key is getting the camera more over you shoulder for better balance. I added a Studio Base plate to get a gold mount battery in the back. This will help balance the rig a little more and use less batteries on other stuff. Just using the bits of the recoil with a existing base plate can also work.

I still prefer to shoot without a rig but if i need one I'm glad I have the Recoil.

The "tornardo thingy" does not allow enough room for a Matt box so pending what you are shooting ...useless.

I'm not a matte box guy. Dont use filters very often that require one. The lens hood is fine for shading the lens for me. It all depends. I do think the matte box is over used to make you look like a cinematographer. Not saying that in your case just in general. These cameras are so front heavy and them one more big thing in front of the camera just makes no sense to me.

Sorry Erik wasn't rubbishing your workflow.

But it is a real concern for shooting narrative or commercial work with strong backlight creative light type shoots or when your heavily NDing. Hence my statement "pending what you shoot" & maybe something the OP hasn't considered.

All good. No issues. I didn't take your comment that way.
These small cameras with SLR lenses are so tight in the front. I have issues with primes because they are so short even a follow focus and EVF is a pain to fit in such a small space.
