Zacuto has given up on this one.

I called Zacutos here in Chi-town and they won't be stocking the JVC ProHD because of the problems. I don't know if this will change. They have the Sony and plan to stock the H1 and HX200.

I didn't know they were stocking it to begin with.

A place in Chicago for rental or purchase of the HD-100, BR50 deck and accessories is SMS, just off of Division.
Click Here. Give Man-Sung a call.

@Huiy, Your post serves no purpose. You've told me you don't live near Chicago, so what is your reason in posting anything?

The more people fight against the HD100 the more I fall in love with it. And in 20 years, when nobody knows the Z1, XL H1 and HVX200 anymore, some people still will remember the HD100 because of its "problems". Its "problems" are, what makes the HD100 so likable respectively human.

It's problems seem to be what makes people shy away from it. I personally don't know why I'm still interested in it. I do want to see the quality though. I might check out SMS. I haven't been to their new location yet.

Seems like a wise move -- by all accounts JVC told the dealers, "too bad, you lose"
That's a good way to lose their customers, our dealers.
Zacuto is well established as a Panasonic shop anyways.
JVC won't miss them and they won't miss JVC.

Not all accounts.

The linked post by Bob Mueller (of JVC) states JVC's policy about the HD-100. Once again, I urge anyone interested in the HD-100 to go and get hands on the camera and try it out. Heresay is just that, heresay. Go test out the camera and form your own opinions.

@Nate- this site is a good resource but dvinfo.net has more HD-100 power user input from across the globe and dwells on working with the camera.

Thanks for the pointer. I am impressed for sure. Mini35 seems to be performing well.

I am still interesting in the lighting set up.

Maybe Nate Weaver can interject here, but I asked him whether he could have gotten away without using the mini35 on that shoot and he said yes.

I'd agree. You could shoot this quality with the stock lens.

I saw the Sony FX at the Apple store. Really impressed but didn't get a chance to play with it as I would've liked. I want to purchase a Sony FX1 and an HVX. I can't bring myself to drop $9000 for the Canon and I'll wait for the next generation split screenless version of the HD100. I know SSE may not be a concern but I'm a run and gunner for life so the fear of SSE alone is enough for me not to buy. If I had a million dollars I'd buy them all. Well maybe not the HD100 just yet but the other three definitely. But then again if I have a million dollars I could buy a Varicam, but knowing me I probably wouldn't unless I needed to.

I've heard some bad things about the Sony but nothing more than what I heard about the DXV100 when it first dropped. I have some night scenes I want to shoot and I really want to do it with the FX1. I don't like Sony as a company but I do like the images they get. I may get just the HVX100 and try mimic the Sony but I really do like it's image and design. Maybe one day JVC and Panasonic will team up and give us a DVC Pro HD camera in an HD100 body for a $5000 price tag. It can be done.

One thing I've asked and still want to know is am I to understand that shooting the DV mode on this camera downconverted HD? Considering the image has to use the same chips to shoot on would it be technically accurate to say this is downconverted HD (or downconverted HDV)? I ask this because I could add this footage into a DI played with this camera at the Apple store and was quite impressed but was curious as too how you all are getting your footage into the NLE. Are you using the FireStore or tape or both at the same time. Also, when you shoot in DV mode am I to understand that this is downconverted HD? Considering it has to use the same chips to shoot on would it be technically accurate to say this is downconverted HD (or downconverted HDV)? I ask because I could add this footage into a DV project and bypass HDV but get a cleaner higher quality DV 16:9 picture. Think about it.

Are you joking? No one will be like I loved that cam because it was so imperfect, people are gonna say man I remember the camera it was awesome till everyone found out the 10 major errors. No ones wants an imperfect camera.

The HD100 is not a perfect camera, neither the FX1, the XL H1 or the HVX200. There are no perfect cameras at this price range. I own an imperfect HD101 and I love it, it's the only camera available that fits my needs. Excellent image quality, beautiful and ergonomic design, a real professional body and lens... you get more than you pay for. Ok, it has CA and a SSE under very extreme low light situations... so what? The lens can be replaced and without light SSE won't be your major problem.

I don't love it for it's defects, I love it because finally I was able to purchase a pro camera that can impress me and my clients. And there are no 10 major errors that someone will find, there are 2 that were found before the camera was released.

It's like having an Italian car, lots of problems, large amounts of money spent on repairs... but it's performance is above all that, you just fall in love with it.

beautiful footage

nateweaver,

I love your video. It really does look like film. Wonderful lighting and great depth of field. Video had some a long way. Great work!

I have only seen two clips from this camera and both have looked really good. I would buy one if it didn't have the split screen issue in low light. It must have been one of the worst HD camera's to be released in the last year, especially now the HVX-200 is out. Do you think it will be long before this model is discontinued, i cant see how it can compete with the offerings from Panasonic, Sony and Canon.
