YOU TUBE SUCKS; use this instead

I found the DivX stuff to be amazing. I host it myself, but use the DivX encoder. Even at 720, it's amazingly clear. Better than an h264 QT at the same file size. You can also upload stuff to stage6.com, but I prefer to host it myself.

Plus Divx sound like dvx ;-)

Not to defend Youtube's quality - but there is one thing that Youtube has over the other places ... the audience.

Something worth keeping in mind.

I haven't looked at any of these, but have tried Divx briefly in the past. Are any of the above mentioned capable of live streams, or am I still going to use WMP?

Yes, but we're talking about quality. And it that department... it sucks.

I agree though, in terms of audience it slays all comers.

I like http://www.stage6.com/ (part of DIVX). The videos the videos (that are larger than 320) are great quality for the most part and I have the option to download them, something I need because I can't get highspeed at my house. I've encoded some DIVX and it makes a much smaller file IMO with the same quality as other files.

When I go to the Vimeo site to view a video, all I get is a "XML did not load site is being notified" type message. What's going on? Do I need some sort of special codec for vimeo? I'm running W2kSP4 and IE6 and have no trouble viewing clips on other flash sites.
Thanks for any help.

i guess there's no real need on youtube for quality. considering the majority of people that use it aren't that concerned with quality of videos as much as quantity.....

Well I guess you could always upload to both, use youtube to nab the audience and then leave a Vimeo link... there is always a third option :)
