You THink YOU'VE Got JelloCam?

So you think you have JelloCam CMOS wobble issues on the XDCam EX, eh?

Well you could be in worse shape. I tested my Canon HV20 this evening with the help of my sound system to provide some industrial shake table action and recorded what the camera saw. There was quite a bit of geometric distortion!

Let me never hear another complaint about "JelloCam" on the Sony EX1 after seeing this HV20 footage! :)

Ugh, well don't put an HV20 in those situations, problem solved! Honestly, if you don't do the research for a sound camera buying decision, especially nowadays when CMOS is all the rage, then you deserve to end up with jellocam footage.

It is now common knowledge that CMOS cameras aren't meant for these kinds of situations and starting inflammatory threads like this is just annoying and insulting to this site. The HV20 is a great camera and so is its successor, the HV30. They offer major bang for your buck and, when used correctly, can match the quality of higher priced cameras. Are they the best option for every situation? No, certainly not as your videos show. But becuase they are flawed in one particular area doesn't mean that they are entirely useless as you are implying nor any less of a camera than the EX1 is. They are simply different tools that can accomplish the same thing, beautiful 1080p 24p footage.

Even if u put a CCD camera on that table, the footage will be jello free but it is still unusable. The only problem for CMOS to me is partial exposure due to unsync strobes.

Indeed, it was an extreme shooting situation. My HV20 does serve me well on stage, crammed up in a nook in the orchestra shell, on the world's smallest tripod, to cover the conductor as a locked-off shot. That's about all I ever use it for these days, but it's the only cam small enough to fit and not be conspicuous.
I thought the video would be somewhat funny, as well as entertaining. :)
