So many shady things about this XL2 on paper.. I really do think the DVX-series is the apex of what 1/3 miniDV cams can do. These really are the last generations of small-factor SD pro cams we'll see. I doubt the XL2 will improve upon the DVX, image quality wise. I think canon is releasing this Pana-teched XL2 just for the sake of putting their name in the game, keeping their pool of users within their brand..before the real race for HD starts. They don't expect much of the XL2 and neither should us consumers.

Please, let us just keep this clear, the only part of this camera that is similar to the DVX is the 24P, 2:3, and 24PA, 2:3:3:2, concepts. That is all. No other Panasonic Technology has been used.

Please, let us just keep this clear, the only part of this camera that is similar to the DVX is the 24P, 2:3, and 24PA, 2:3:3:2, concepts. That is all. No other Panasonic Technology has been used.

the open architecture is not as open as many would think.. but it is nice I guess. Kinda like the Sony 900 HD settings saves.

Really? I thought it looked pretty good on paper except for the limited wide-angle that comes with the default lens. What other things look shady to you?

The XL2 body style is almost the exact same as the previous Canon camera's XL1/XL1s. ALso, most of the accessaries are backwards compatible ie lens, batteries. So that will lure the Canon guys into buying I'm sure. As far as the indie filmaker quote. Having true 16:9 using the most out of the ccd on the XL2 is a very attractive feature. However, in the 4:3 ratio, it does not use the full size of the ccd, resulting in a less resolute picture.

Ah, got it, I think. So event and corporate work is usually shot in 4:3, and since the XL2's 4:3 image quality will most likely be inferior to the DVX's, it will fall short for event and corporate work. Right? That makes perfect sense. Thanks for qualifying your statement.

Would be great if the DVX had an 16:9 CCD (switchable 4:3) so that it would eliminate the need for an anamorphic adapter. That would be my main request for next version. I know the 100A has a digital squeeze though.
