Yet another moving portrait...

Hi all, I ran out and shot this for a friend in Hawaii who misses snow (yeah, I know).

Anyway, any advice/suggestions for improvement would be appreciated.

I had some grain issues and the snow was blown out. Would a polarizing filter have prevented that?

Thanks,
Patrick

Lowering the exposure would be far more effective in preventing blown out highlights than a polarising filter. I don't know what controls the D5000 gives you in video mode but by using AE lock after pointing at brighter/darker parts of the scene you should be able to make very rough adjustments. A polariser filter will remove reflections so is best used with reflective surfaces such as windows and water - Having never had to worry about it myself, I have no idea if a polariser will effectively remove glare from snow or not.
