GH4 Yet another GX7 clip

Hello Lads,

Wanted to see how the Fotasy ND would do on a Minolta glass in conjunction with GX7.
Grabbed a 28mm Rokkor and off we went.

Overall the results are quite pleasing, no issues ND vs glass to be spotted.
Compared to my previosu test with a Rokinon, I find the Minoltas to have a bit more character but for a price of sharpness.

Supposedly both GX7 and GH4 sport the same sensor which only makes me more psyched for the arrival of the latter.

Anyways, thanks for watching.

I'm guessing the Fotasy is one of the same inexpensive variND that's rebranded by others (Polaroid, etc.)? These cheaper filters usually fall apart at longer focal lengths (100mm+), have you had a chance to evaluate longer lenses with this filter?

Also, any issues with color cast?

Jive,

I do not think it is a rebrand of Polaroid to be honest which as I remember was really crappy and with vignetting, sharpness problem and "X" appearing issue.
I haven't had a chance to test with anything longer but will do that in my next test.
As for color casting, I am not noticing anything alarming. To be honest it feels very true to the source.

Nice test! I got the fotasy too, I think 67mm thread. Bought a couple of step up rings to add to the fujian cctv lenses (35> 37> 52> 67) but it ended up being almost as lengthy as a my nikkor 35mm and vivitar 28mm (which give a similar look to the rokkor here I think). Fujian cctv and fotasy combination seemed to do strange blobs of flares and internal reflections.

Do you have any recommendations and tips to keep the gx7 stabilized while focusing or walking? Been looking into things thay are small and fit my small carry bag. Onlu thing I could find was the gorilla pod, which negates the stealth factor a little as I'm sure people think I carry around anal beads.

I want to tell you all as well that I'm loving the GX7 as much as I did the GH2 back in the day. Sold my GH3 in the meantime as, while it has a lower bitrate, the GX7 looks better all the way around and is MUCH better in low light. Egonimically strange viewfinder, but sharp as can be. Also, the ETC mode is much better than any that have come before.

Have a preorder for the GH4 but will likely keep the GX7 as well.

Lammy,

I am using mine with this cage.

Of course it is not very stealthy but when on shoots and in need of a follow focus and more hand held stability, this one does the job. Very cheap but the built quality is amazing. Absolutely no regrets.

Ah yeah thanks. I've got a few cages and big rigs too. I just bought a steadypod, though honestly it's not much better than tugging the strap for video. Still on the hunt for a stealthy tiny rig!
