Yes I'm afraid I have another adaptor.

Well, after Edweirdo helped me out a ton, I got my adaptor working great.

here are the first screencaps I have...

Tell me what you think.

Thanks again for Edweirdo and everyone else on this thread who helped me accomplish this.

PS- I wasn't able to upload all of the images through our free hosting here so I had to use imageshack,

hello

hello

what is the best condensor or plano convex lens with best quality to eliminate hot spot ? and what size and focal lenght of condensor or plano is the best for gg with 50 mm diameter ? thanks

i've got parts in the mail to start my adapter. wooohooo!

anyway, i don't want to overstep my bounds since i haven't even built my adapter yet, but what would everyone thing about starting a new thread specifically for finished adapters? this thread is huge! it's full of information, but it's taking me some time to go back and find things i remember reading. for example, there were several posts involving the asian +10 macro. i think it was good, but then someone found something better? and if i remember correctly marlenedegrood mentions in one of her tutorials that she has two macros in her adapter, but that she is going to remove one. which is right? just thought it would be nice to have a thread for a quick reference to see a list of completed adapters, and what parts were used.

thoughts?

You are right in that this thread is very long and very hard to pull the right information out of unless you read every single post. A good example is above. I started out using the Asian +10. I ended up using a Century Optics +7 diopter and extending the length of my adapter by about 2 inches to get the best results (not to mention a few differenct screens) This finished adapter is extremely sharp and aberation free but the process of coming to it is mixed in with all the posts. I did put another close up onto the CO+7 to get focus before I figured out that extending the length a little would rid me of any cheap optics.

This thread is very valuable for those who take the time to read through all the threads as all the experimentation is documented.

no doubt. i spent 2 full days reading every post, watching all the sample footage, and reading every page that all the threads linked to. just kind of hard to keep up with everything i read. not to come across as a hater though. especially to you marlenedegrood. your advice was extrememly helpful. again, a huge thanks for that.

IM soooo frustrateddddd.. my origional adapter (eds first design) worked great minus the color aberation and blurries on the edges (asian +10) but i wanted to make my adapter 100 percent great. i purchassed the co+7 and still couldnt zoom in close enough.. so then i purchassed the cannon 500d as a kicker.. unfortunatly i cant even tell the different with that added (even with space between it and the co7).. my aol dvd case ground glass is in place and at the right distance from my lens, so i dont know what is happening.. why cant i zoom in far enough? someone please help.. PM me if you feel like helping me out.. maybe if someone could loan me their adapter plans.. i just want this to work again and im getting super stressed out

zakaree. My design is not the same as Ed's, but I have used the CO +7 and 500D with success (DVX100B).

I'm not sure if I'm reading this correctly, but are you saying that you have a space between the CO +7 and 500D? If so, you want them right next to each other. In fact, because of how the lenses are placed within their holders, they didn't work for me when I had the 500D next to the camera and then the CO +7. I did get them to work in this order:

DVX > 72-58 step down ring > CO +7 > 58-72 step up ring > 500D > GG. With this set up, I had about 47mm between the front of the 500D and the GG. My DVX100B's zoom was around 78 and the focus was on 26.

Hope that helps

Hey Snodart,

Have you given out plans on how you made your vibrating gg design. I finished my static adaptor, but the few images I've shot seem soft. I hope this is mainly because the distance b/w the Nikon screen and lens is off. I've been meaning to put up some pics, but I want to tweak the adaptor first.

Mike,
I have been working on a DIY DVD for the vibrating adapter. Things are moving right along, but there is still much to do. The DVD will be loaded with extras pertaining to 35mm adapters and DOF. The DVD will come with a few of the hard to find and small parts as well. I will be putting up a web site at some point with all the info, sample footage, and for pre-orders.

As for the softness. If the screen/lens distance is off only slightly you should still be able to achieve a pretty sharp image. The focus distances noted on the lens will not match what you are actually getting in this case, but you should still be able to get some sharpness. You may want to play with the focus and zoom settings of the DV cam and make sure you have them set in the "ideal" spot. A tiny bit off in the DV cam's focus makes a huge difference. Also, the DVX (if that is what you are using) has a sweet spot around f/5 and most 35mm lenses are said to be the sharpest at a few notches below open. It depends on your lens, but somewhere around f/2. I have also found that low light either makes the images soft or gives them the appearance of being soft.

Snod,

What kind of bonus bits and pieces?!? Certainly not a focusing screen...

Hey BTW, where did you find a 72mm extension tube? I've been looking all over.

I use the CO+7 with no additional close ups. All I did was extend my adapter by about 2 inches with a spacer. No problems obtaining focus and no additional glass.

can u give me the measurments? how close is your co7 to the dvx lens.. and to the focus screen.. so on...

Bonus parts will include those items that are hard to find and/or cheaper to buy in bulk. An example would be the machine screws that are required. They are a size that is difficult to find and most places that do sell them have a minimum shipping charge of $7-$10 (the screws cost less than $1). I don't want people to get the DVD and get set up to start building the adapter only to discover that one of the parts is next to impossible to find. For the parts that do need to be ordered, I have contacted the various sellers/companies to ensure that they are ready for the orders.

As for the focusing screen... the DVD does not come with one, but you won't be up late on google searching for one either.

just got it in the mail today. may need either an extension tube, or another one of these, but i think it could possibly be used as the entire tube for the adapter. i don't have a focusing screen or a macro lens yet, so i'm not sure of the distances i need between the 35 mm lens and the screen, macro lens from the dvx, etc. if someone can give me a brief sum of those distances that would be a great help.

i'm also not sure of the physical size the macro should be. i've seen people using both +10 and +7, but i'm not sure if they need to be a certain diameter. i can't find the exact diameter of the extension tube, but the "sandwich" to hold the focus screen just fits inside it, and the widest piece in the sandwich is the 49mm to 52mm step up ring. is that big enough for a macro lens to go inside?

also, i'm not even sure that i need the macro. this tube is supposed to somehow be used in place of a macro lens i think. not really sure how that works.

anyway, i'll let you know when i get a focusing screen and try all this out. someone else who has a focusing screen may want to take a look at it since it's only $20 + $5 shipping. it took less than a week for them to get it to me and i'm in hawaii. besides, even if it's no good for anything else, you have a nikon f mount.

after looking at what i have a little longer, i think i might just be able to take a step down ring to connect the dvx to the adapter tube, then play around with the positioning of the macro lens and the focusing screen. think it's that simple?

Snodart,

Thanks for the info. I think the reason my initial footage looked soft was because I was in my basement, which is lit with low flourescent lights. I just tested out the adaptor again at work, and it looks a lot better -- even though it's still not the best lighting conditions. I'll shoot some more footage outside at some point this weekend and put it up to see what you think.
