Xtreme Chips - Short Sketch

So this is the first shoot I've done with my 7D. I used both the Tokina 11-16 and the Canon 17-55 for this on a shoulder mount. Audio was done using a pair of Sennheiser G3 wireless mics with Countryman B6 lavs connected to a Zoom H4N recorder. Edited using Final Cut Pro.

I'm not too sure how the color correction looks since I'm not great at color correction quite yet. Overall, I thought the workflow wasn't bad at all and using Pluraleyes, everything seemed to sync up perfectly!

Dont zoom like that, lock on close ups of every actor and sometimes switch to wide shot,it looks better with closeups, too much time you spent on wide angle and it looks like regular cam there while on zoomed portraits it looks much better but you shouldnt show actual zooming in the footage, looks cheesy like those chinese old movies or sam raimi on steroids.

im going to have to disagree with the previous post. The zoom gives it that documentary/mocumentary/The Office vibe. And i feel like that's kinda what he was going for. Good work! My only buff was the drastic change in contrast/color between shots. Im guessing this is due to different cameras used?

i;d also disagree with bwwd. he's def going for the handheld docu/office look. things like "dont zoom" are rules which are made to be broken if you know why you are doing what ur doing. Anyway...nice job.

thought it was pretty funny!! good job :)

one thing i noticed was the levels between the characters. Because the guy selling the chips was standing up he had 'more power' for lack of a better term, then the boss who was sitting down. The boss had no authority over them and if he stood up, the argument would have changed...
bad at explaining but i hope you get what im trying to say lol

Thank you guys for your awesome comments :-) Glad people got a laugh out of it!

Yeah, the snap zooms are supposed to be like a documentary / The Office type of feel to it. This was my first time using this lav type of setup, and I wasn't happy with it. I, too, noticed the awful audio levels throughout and I tried to fix it while editing but some things just can't be fixed in post. They were just to low to begin with.

The color grading is another issue completely. I used the 7D for the entire shoot, and just tossed between the 2 lenses and I was shocked at how different the footage looked between lenses. We shot inside, so light change wasn't an issue, but it seemed the Tokina 11-16 gave a much more "orange" look then the Canon 17-55. I tried (and failed) to match the color between the shots. I'm still baffled at why the color was so much different when the only thing that changed was the lens (same camera, same settings, etc..)

Anyways, anyone have any good links on matching color, or for that matter just color correcting in general?
