XL2 Upgrade to Canon XHA1 questions!

Hi guys,

I've got a canon XL2 but I'm thinking of upgrading it to Canon XHA1 just because XL2 is not HD. Also I did a research and I can see that the image Canon XHA1 produces is better than XL2.

I have a few questions which I'll appreciate if you can help me with those:

1) Will my VTR that I use to capture footages, work with the HD tapes or do I need to buy a new VTR to capture my HD footages?

2) Does Canon XHA1 have great sound system like XL2? Does it have XLR plugs (for mics) like XL2?

3) Do I really need to upgrade my camera after getting so many stuff for it?

Thanks for reading.

You can capture the HD footage from the A1 directly to your computer through firewire. A VTR won't capture HD footage unless its an HD VTR. Another option is to buy an HV20, HV30 or HV40 camera. The HV20 is a couple generations back now (read cheap) and plays all of the A1's formats including 24f (even though the HV20 doesn't record 24f it plays it just fine). They were made for each other.

The A1 has a great sound system, turn gain off in sound and AGC off for video. It does have dual XLR plugs.

HD produces a much better image. Whether you upgrade is up to you, but more and more delivery is by HD (blu-ray, HDTV, etc.) HD is more future proof and SD is diminishing.

Thanks a lot Duke. Do you think using a canon HV40 to capture the footages that have been taken by XH-A1, won't reduce its quality or affect it at all?

It won't harm the quality at all. They were made for each other. It will be perfect. I and many other people have done it many, many times.
