XL2 Presets...and another question

what is the most cinematic preset for the XL2 (as much as i can get it to look like standard motion picture look) PLEASE LET ME KNOW, i am desperate, and i also have another question? how come when i import my footage into FCP-HD it is grainy... i also tried iMovie HD, still grainy.

did you shoot in low light?
make sure you automatic gain isn't on. If you aperture s closed or your shutter speed is fast and there isnt enough light teh automatic gain will compensate with video noise or grain.

Go to www.dvinfo.net and do a search for XL2 presets. Plenty of info there. And, iMovie won't run your footage at max res'. It eats too much memory to do so. If it is indeed a grain problem then try and do as the other poster suggested. Personally I do -0 and pump in tons of light and make sure I'm wide open.
 
PANA, What do you mean wide open? Are you talking about your Iris?

What is your usual settins for the XL2 F.stop and Shutter speed?
I know I get a lot fo strobing and Interlacing issues with I have my shutter speed on the standard 1/48th so I usually put it around 1/80th - 1/120. Besides, it allows more still frames to be captured.
 
Got a lot to learn there Xili... there is an abundance of info over at DVinfo.net in the XL2 forum. I can help you with a pre-set but you need to know a lot more about the camera and video in general . There is no standard fstop, shutter, etc. It depends on the look you want. The interlacing you are seeing is normal if you shoot in 24P 2:3 pulldown mode and is not unique to the XL2, and strobing is not the right word as a high shutter would only enhance such. The shutter has NOTHING to do with the frame rate and any shutter in 24P mode other than 1/48th should be done for EFFECT as it will alter the image.

Actually, bumping the shutter up in 24p mode is silly as you lose the motion blur that you WANT from 24P. Maybe you should try shooting some 30p, it looks great and goes to DVD terrific.
