xl2 or dvx100b

Seriously? That's a question? I thought you had an XH-A1? The XL2 is pretty much the same price as an XH-A1, at least here in Canada.

What are you using it for? Do you need interchangeable lenses? Are you trying to match it with another camera? There's a search button that will answer this a million times over. The general consensus on DVXUSER is that the DVX is the better camera.

Dude i don't know!!!

I've been looking through these cameras for about a year now... Pondering the best....

I'll think I'm on the right track but just then, one of my film teachers tells me to go with something else....

Cut me some slack dude!

All i know is a need a camera VERY VERY SOON!!!

And i want it to last a while and not be Totally obsolete in a year!!!

thanks

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as ridiculously harsh. Just judging from your previous posts, I assumed you had an XH-A1.

What camera is your film teacher suggesting? The only thing that will be obsolete soon is SD...and not even that soon (at least another few years). I have an XH-A1 and had a DVX previously. I have only had two jobs that required HD deliverables. The rest has all been SD shot, finalized on a DVD.

I personally don't think the XL2 is all its cracked up to be. That being said, I have only used the XL2 on a handlful of occasions. I owned a DVX100b and used it extensively. On the other hand, going to Canon for video after my DVX has sort of been a big difference. The colors aren't as out of the box rich as the DVX. With tweaking, proper lighting, and color correction the XH-A1 produces fantastic, clean, filmic images.

If you are going the way of SD however, I would pick the DVX. If you can afford an XL2 - you can afford an XH-A1...in which case, that's what I would get.

EDIT: Looks like from your earlier posts, you'll be doing independent projects and events. I'd definitely say to stay away from the XL2 and pick up a used DVX. Save your money and don't get the XH-A1 yet. Use your money wisely and you'll get some great stuff. Invest money in a good tripod (as I mentioned in your other thread - the 501HDV w/ 055b sticks is a great combo to start that is cost effective). Buy a shotgun mic w/ a shockmount (try starting with a RODE NTG-1 w/ on camera shockmount or boompole). Pick up a Spiderbrace (www.spiderbrace.com - a cheap shoulder stabilizer that works wonders). Now you're ready for run 'n gun shooting and event stuff.

after a long time looking at a whole load of cameras it came down to the dvx and the xl2 we went with the xl2 and we believe it was the best choice. Just make sure you buy a good light kit. I posted a vid in canon clips have a look
