XL2 onboard mic

Is the stock mic good for any serious or useable audio?

Sometimes I don't have a crew to use a pole, so I will probably have to rely on the onboard one.

Serious? No... usueable? Yes, in a controlled environment. You can also get a better shotgun or a wireless setup, both can be used in a one man operation....

Serious? No, the quality is mediocre... Useable? Yes, you can use the internal mic to sync with a dat recorder or something like that.

I shoot a movie with a XL2 with the on-board mic (because I had no choice) and the result is .... ordinary.

Like AshG said, a wireless setup can be an option if you don't have a person to boom.
