XL2 or Dvx, XL2 or Dvx ,XL2 or Dvx ???? In the end, it will always come back to story, so in the end it really doesn't matter. They both have pro's, they both have con's.
I guess it's just a matter of personal taste and cash flow distribution choices.
I was a little surprised that noone had posted any 24p footage yet, so I asked the guy at the camera shop if he'd let me record some footage to tape, he said "go ahead" you just have to stay in the store and can't take the camera off the tripod.
This footage represents a little 5 o'clock light coming through the glass you will see in the clip and a skylight in the middle of the store, that's it.
It was my first time playing with the camera but I set everything to "cine"
and pressed the blacks, so forth and so on.
Edited in FCP4 compressed to 50% in Compressor.
Hope you all enjoy this quick lil' clip.

Re: XL2 24p Cine Settings 16:9

note: for richer colors... slight adjustments in the color gain will go a long ways...

Re: XL2 24p Cine Settings 16:9

Thanks. You made my night. I've been waiting a long time to see footage like that.

Re: XL2 24p Cine Settings 16:9

Re: XL2 24p Cine Settings 16:9

How the camcorder handel the highlight on the table is very god. I like the overal softness and the color temperatur. As a first time experiment with the "automatic cinegamma" looks very good. I say automatic because you didn't have time to try every combinations and you just turned all the cine settings on. There is a kind of artifaction on the table's legs in front of the glass window which is preaty bad. Maybe because the down-scale or something. It is someting like when I turn the sharpness in PD150 on more than 2 steps and scale the size to the halv. The atmosfare of the video is film. It is an other kind of filmlook than the DVX filmlook.

Re: XL2 24p Cine Settings 16:9

..well, its the most film-like imagery ive seen come from the XL2 so far  :) ..  starting to pull away from its tendencies to look like really clear and sharp washed out video. aside from the shot where you can see outside..that looked like video galore again..
surely it can all be tweaked in post to bring out some more color and richness to the scene. i know you mentioned it can be done in camera too.. but seeing is believing.  ;)

Re: XL2 24p Cine Settings 16:9

jip, very nice. Thank you.

Did you use a camera filter or an FCP effect? The picture is very blurry (blury?)/ soft.

Re: XL2 24p Cine Settings 16:9

Damn Jestorious, those pictures you posted looked great!!! :D

Very filmlike.

Re: XL2 24p Cine Settings 16:9

I assume you did post processing on the PD150 stills? If so what did you do?

Re: XL2 24p Cine Settings 16:9

Show - all the colors are from the PD150P. You don't believe me I guess but it's true. It isn't special just use more saturation.

The only extra I was using is a Schneider circ. polarizer and a .9 ND on a Century 16:9 adapter.

Re: XL2 24p Cine Settings 16:9

What kind of saturation boost did you give?!

Those are great images.

Dammit, I freaking hate quicktime... I sit there and download it and half the time I can't view it for some gay reason. What do you guys use, Macs? Why is this format so goddam popular when it's one of the least efficient formats for the web?

Re: XL2 24p Cine Settings 16:9

I use a PC and I much prefer it to WM9 for streaming. Not sure why... it just seems to be more stable to me :shrugs:

Re: XL2 24p Cine Settings 16:9

I'm seriously considering a Mac G5 for my next computer, but I have to admit that I really like the performance of WM9. The WM9 sample footage seems larger and overall looks better. Where as, you can download a 50mb quicktime clip that's the size of a large postage stamp and lasts for only 30 seconds. Of course, I'm stretching things a bit, but seriously the best sample clip I've downloaded all came from WM9.

Go figure? ???

Re: XL2 24p Cine Settings 16:9

Oh, don't get me wrong. I like WM9 - just not for *streaming* purposes. For DL files it can do much better than quicktime.
