If you're going to buy the PAL version a beautiful example is a film by Danny Boyle called "28 days later"

Why an XL1S? Why not an XL2 or, even better for the price, a DVX?

As far as the XL1S goes, you're probably not going to find decent-looking footage unless someone has posted some recently. All the ones I've seen are heavily compressed and don't really show the quality footage the camera can put out. Also, usually if there is good looking footage, it's when someone is using a Mini35/Micro35/or some sort of 35mm adapter on it. But that is just my findings over time, there may still be footage out there somewhere but I don't know where that would be exactly.

You may also want to try looking for Canon GL1 or GL2 footage as that will give you an example of the same quality of footage because, as I'm sure you already know, the GL1/GL2 cameras are just a smaller version of the XL1S.

"28 Days Later" is a nice example of what DV can do, but remember that they used high-end prime lenses on a Mini35 for the movie's look and they tweaked around a lot in post.

Thanks,
28days later is already edited and color corrected so i can´t see the true quality of the Xl1s.
I know about the Xl1s´ good colors but I worry about the sharpness.
So I´d like to see screengrabs from native material. :love4:

You can go ahead and check out some of my works. Most of them are not color corrected at all. there are some that are DVX but most are GL2 so it's comparable.

wall of fame link. The Tunnel 2 is DVX and KMWIR is DVX as well. All others are GL2no CC and some have a home made mini35 adapter.

good luck.

Sorry, there was no Mini35 used on "28 Days Later" on the XL1. Just the Canon primes used with an Optex adapter.

Really? You sure? I thought they said Mini35. Hmm, could have been I suppose, I don't think they said anything definite on the Making-Of, just "DV"-this and "DV"-that.
