Hello everybody,

I've got a bunch of shorts shot with xl1 and edited in FCP i wanted to post on youtube (and other places). I have compressed the movies into .mov formats and they have way to much artifacting and splotchiness online. Youtube recommends dvx as an all around compressor. Has anyone here used dvx? Anyone have any other suggestions as to how to compress for online viewing?

thanks much

try exporting as a quicktime file. its not going to look great on youtube no matter what, but you can upload files up to 100 mb, so you can get kinda decent quality at that size. You also may want to burn it to a DVD at full quality and then rip it at the exact size you want using handbrake.

Export with the "IPOD" preset out of FCP. it goes to a .m4v file, which I've had luck with uploading to youtube in the past over quicktime .mp4 files. If you really want your stuff to look nice online, post on vimeo.com - they do HD and everything, and it all looks much better than youtube.
