XL H1 no longer on Canon site..... is Canon up to something?

It's not there.
Has it ceased production?

Surely this is a strong sign that Canon is working on or will soon release a large sensor interchangeable lens video camera, probably visually and ergonomically similar to the XL series?
Canon needs to get on the 35mm sensor bandwagon soon... I know they used to wait a year or two after seeing Sony's and Panasonic's offerings before announcing their own - maybe the "Canon lag" is going to be shorter than in the past?

I don't know why you would think that. The XL-H1 is an old design. It's been out since 2005 I believe, and has already replaced by the XF300 and XF305. It's not like the XL series has ever been a big seller in any case, the XL2 was a dud and I don't think the H1 sold any better. It doesn't offer the full ergonomic benefit of a shoulder mounted camera and it's too bulky for a prosumer camera. It would be highly doubtful that Canon's first foray into the large sensor market would be with such a design.

They're gonna need a new short flange distance mount.... unless they are really, really stupid and use their SLR mount or something ghastly like that which will prevent users from adapting virtually any lens to the camera (a huge selling point for the AF100).

I really hope Canon comes to the 35mm sensor party soon.
I haven't bought a camera in years, I'm sitting on the fence waiting for the 35mm video/DSLR convergence to come to its logical conclusion - I believe that time is almost upon us - 2012 looks VERY good :)
My vision is for a Canon product line as follows:

1) Sub-$2k consumer cam with basic full manual control over all video and audio parameters (probably made tricky to use by lack of dedicated buttons/knobs, instead implemented via menus like the HVxx series).
2) Sub-$5k prosumer cam with XLR audio, full manual everything, LCD display & features to fit the price tag
3) Sub $15k professional model to compete with Sony F3 and Panasonic AF100 (or whatever Panasonic releases in the $15k price bracket).

I'm sure any camera they make now will be the EF mount if its for a large sensor. Their mount will take Canon, Nikon, C/Y, PL but the main point is that they make lenses and will want people to buy them.

With all the XL series cameras, Canon always did the replacement/introductions in the month of November....
