XHA1 VCR Mode Problem

Hi, I was recording earlier with the XHA1 and playing the tape back in VCR mode just fine...

Now, when I try to play back or sample tapes that I know have material on them, filmed on this very camera, all it plays back is a blue screen and, while telling me how many minutes are left on the tape, has only dashes for the minutes-seconds-frames readback.

I'm hoping maybe I just pressed a button somewhere that I shouldn't have...

Any ideas?

(posted earlier in Canon Cameras section but realized here would be better)

If there is no timecode and dashes where the minutes/seconds should be, that means there's no footage at that location. I don't know what else to tell you.

Get a tape you know is blank and record some video then play it back. If it just gives you a blue screen I would try cleaning the heads.

Could the tape head needing cleaning produce this result? Would the camera still be able to tell how much tape was left (as it is doing) if it was so dirty that it couldn't read footage?

Hello,
just new here, I came to this forum because I encountered the same problem. With me it was the magnetic field produced by my wacom tablet. After struggling for hours i lifted up the xha1 from the tablet and all for sudden no problems anymore. After putting the camera back on the tablet a couple of times for confirmation it was pretty obvious this was the problem. So if some would encounters this problem also, try taking it away from any electronic equipment that might produce magnetic fields. Or just take it outside to be sure. Hopefully this reply might be of help to any one.

Welcome to the forum.

Your Wacom must produce a big field if it blanks your A1 LCD out .. it wouldn't be big enough to erase your tapes, but it could screw your credit cards and knock your wristwatch about.

Cheers.
