XHA1 - Max depth of field indoors

Hello and thanks in advance for any assistance you may have.

I am involved in a film that shoots predominantly indoors (a 1BR apartment) and does not allow the camera to back up more than 12-15 feet. Naturally, this reduces the ability to "back up and zoom in" to create nice depth of field shots.

Does anyone have any recommendations for settings or techniques to maximize the performance of the XHA1 and get depth of field shots under these conditions?

(without the use of a DOF adaptor)

Any advice is welcome. I want to take this camera to its limits.

Well the first thing you need to do is try to shoot wide open where possible, this is going to help you a lot. Lighting is going to be an intricate component, as how you use will not only determine if you can stay wide open, but it can also give the room depth through light and shade.
