Hi im a newbie to this forum and a newbie to video so please excuse my lack of knowledge and what are pretty basic questions to this forum.

ive tried reading the xha1 manual and watching the adobe tv tutorials etc but im still confused as hell ! All the gear and no idea tbh :-)

I have bought an xha1 . I have recorded some clips in HDV 50i 1080i/576i setting on the camera. (UK/PAL )
I used a vididrgb preset, i used a manfrotto 501 hdv tripod and slow movements. mainly D.O.F pull focus on natural subjects.

HD DOWN-CONV set to OFF.
COMP OUT set to 1080i

I then set premiere pro cs5 to capture format in DV mode .

I am unsure though what sequence preset should i use when creating new project as most of the clips where i slowly pan or pull focus are interlaced or flickering really badly in my capture screen. they are fine on xha1 lcd screen but not on pc after capture ?.

I tried various HDV sequence presets with no cure to my problem . What preset should i use before capture with 50i or 25f in 1080i ?

Do i have to render the clips before edit to get rid of the interlace?

I want to export in H.264 to vimeoHD from premiere pro in both 50i and 25f ........if and when I eventually get the hang of using the camera and editing !

I have set something up incorrectly anyway thats for sure !! any advice more than welcome and thanks in advance.

yours confused !

Well if you record interlaced...there's going to be artifacts on a computer screen until you de-interlace the footage. You should have an option to de-interlace. I'm not very good with knowing all kinds of software settings from different manufacturers..but all of them should include a de-interlace function. Right click on timeline and check always de-interlace or use media encoder, maybe.
Shooting in progressive to start with might be the better option...you should have presets for 25f.

Thanks very much for your advice pulpfiction.
I rendered in the timeline and it got rid of the interlacing and then i exported in H.264 / 720 to vimeo but seem to have lost my HDV altogether now !

Its now not sharp at all and in a tiny widescreen. think ive got some reading to do ! :-)

I have just got this camera and I'm also a little bit confused. I did notice however that you are capturing in DV and not HDV? just wondering why this is?

Hi Andy
If i set capture to HDV , p.pro doesnt seem to see the camera as connected ? switch to DV and i can capture.im probably doing something totally wrong as my footage aint HD !

Hopefully you can figure out the capture with an HDV preset...so you're in HD! Have you posted in the software section of the forums? Someone there might have had the same problem.

Just out of curiosity, what does it say at the top of the capture window when you have it plugged in? And does your computer recognize the camera?

I sometimes have a problem where i have to reset my camera in order for it to be recognized, but its usually ok.

posted in software forumand got it sussed ( i hope ) changed hd down conv switch to off. ! connected with camera off then switched it on and it worked ! project setting is HDV now and capture looks to be in HDV .
different screen now Andy , its blue says "playing on video hardware ", cant see capture in pro capture screen at all but saves as an mpeg not an avi and qualitys spot on ! tried a sample clip first and it loads in project window and drags to timeline etc no prob plus plays in a much larger screen and in ......HDV :-D ( thats why i bought the damn thing ! ) l looking at clips in media player and cant stop laughing !! its so awesome the qualty !! its what i wanted .
will upload, reedit and repost the results :-)
Thanks for your input guys much appreciated
