That was the initial plan. Seen a couple on craigslist, but haven't really seen anyone stating if this method works well or not...thinking I should stop trying to cut corners and keep saving for an XF300 instead
What about a used Sony EX-1R instead? You'd get better picture quality than with a G1 and be able to use an HDMI recorder (which are cheaper than HD-SDI recorders).
Well the only reason I'd use the recorder with the G1 is so that I could get the uncompressed 1920x1080 image out of the camera (theoretically). If I were to go EX-1R or XF300 that wouldn't be necessary since both of those cameras already record in full 1080p. I'll just save up for now. Maybe something new will come out when I have the funds for one of these =P
You can always use a blackmagic shuttle with component, usb 3.0,and get 4:2:2 color space. There's really not any difference between up rez 1440 compared to 1920. 1440 uses a bigger rectangle pixel. 1920 uses square pixels. so the conversion is so close I can't see any difference. And I doing a project with mixed 1440 and 1920 footage as we speak. I was always under the impression the a1 or g1 did 1440 due to hdv, and tape. But when coming off the sensor, it is a true 1920 signal.
Barry Green would know, he's super knowledgable whith this stuff. Maybe if he reads this he will give you precise answer.
