I looked at soem older threads for a couple hours and to be honest I'm MORE confused now. I just got my A1 and in SD Premiere and OnLocation work no problems but when I switch to HDV OnLocation crashes and Premiere can't capture. So I'm looking at other capture programs like HDVSplit, or maybe Vegas, dunno. Then I read about Cineform and its a plug in for Premiere and Vegas? I know that the most important thing is to not compress your footage as much as possible, better for post-production , CC, ect...

Basically I'm really lost as towards how I should approach my workflow, most of my footage will end up on the web or DVD (which would only be viewed on computers), also a couple of video casts as well. Not that it matters but a little greenscreen work too. Can anyone help?
 
Are you trying to capture live through your A1? I believe you should be able to record live through the firewire in HDV because you can do that with a Firestore, but I haven't heard of something doing it to a computer because you only get HDV out of the firewire and no real benefit.

Cineform is an intermediate codec that you can convert your HDV files to as an AVI or QT so that it will run smooth on a slower computer. They also offer hardware for I/O capture. Another alternative to Cineform is a program like DVFilm Raylight for Windows. With a DVFilm Maker, which comes with Raylight, you convert your HDV files to Raylight AVi's (remove any pulldown etc.) and then you can edit straight in Premiere and have control of quality adjustments through Raylight so you can get real time playback.

I would say the best workflow for using the A1 is to record to tape and then capture through firewire into your NLE. You should be able to let your NLE remove the pulldown if your footage is 24p. Or you can use a program to remove the NLE after your have captured or after you edit though edit at 24p has certain advantages. Once you are done editing export at a lower resolution and with the h.264 codec for web streaming. For dvds, downres to standard definition while exporting an mpeg2 file for burning to dvd with a dvd authoring program.
