XH A1 will not record

It's starting to look like my XH A1 has died, but as a last resort I'm hoping someone may be able to tell me what the problem is or how to get it fixed.
The XH A1 (2yr old) worked fine in the morning, but later in the day when I went to use it only a black screen/eyepiece. The camcorder plays back previous recordings ok on VCR/play mode, but any other record modes (A, Tv, Av, M) only a black screen with no data info and will not record. I have played and checked all switches and settings, including the Standby/Lock switch, but no luck.

Did you try the reset port under where the LCd display sits, next to the internal speaker? Just make sure you power dial is set to off and remove the battery and the AC adapter if it is in the camera, then press (paper clip) inside the port for a few moments. This should reset the entire camera back to factory settings. Some places you want to chack out for repair are 1) Canon Factory Service Center 1-866-510-1335, 2) Video One Repair 1-888-283-2228, or 3) Camcorder Repair.com 1-800-503-5529. I hope that helps. When you say "blank screen with no data info", are you saying that you can actually hear the camera powering up but nothing shows up?
 
check to see if you didnt hit the LOCK button on the backside of where the cassette tape flips open. Happened to me last night! I was able to turn on vcr mode but the camera wouldnt turn on for any of the record modes!!! i thought my camera died! turns out it was that lock button.
