XH A1 output options

Is there any way to get better than HDV quality out of this camera? Better means 4:2:2, or non-mpg2 4:2:0.

Also, is the XH G1 almost the double priced just becouse of the HD-SDI connector?

Thanks.

Yeah sure, use AspectHD www.cineform.com for 4:2:2

Let me clarify that using Aspect HD doesn't get you 4:2:2, it's simply one of the codec that you can compress to. You only get 4:2:2 by bypassing the HVD compression using the component output of the A1, and you'll need a capture card for that. Those aren't cheap ($1000 and up). Even then you'll have to tether the camera to the computer as you record, so that's limited to a studio situation. Recording to tape and then using the component is useless.

Thanks for the info. I have tried out the camera and it's very nice and has a lot of things that I would like to have on my DVX100B - real 16:9, 20xzoom, very smooth aperture ring - but I'm not going to buy a camera that is unable to give out better than HDV quality at a reasonable price. I'll be going for the HVX instead, just have to save up some more...

I guess that rules out the HVX then.

Dont consider an HDV camera if you want better than HDV quality. HVX is great but if you were considering an A1 and are now moving to an HVX, you'll need to save ALOT more, not just some more. 2 A1s for the price of 1 HVX with P2 cards? To each their own.
